He talking about psychedelics in the whole song. Particularly DMT, the most powerful psychedelic that we know about. Lots of people report seeing aliens made of light while on it.

I had to look it up too. Not gonna lie. It would be nice to be able to use this expression irl, but it would only work if more people got the reference. But Sturgill's use of it is pretty freaking brilliant.
