Has anyone else out there ever took the time out of their day to read the column of Scooter Hobbs? He writes for the American Press here in Lake Charles but I'm sure his articles can be found elsewhere. Quite often it seems that he makes fun of and mocks the LSU program and coaching staff. It's almost as if he has a disdain for LSU in some way. I see him eating lunch at Pappy's and OB's all the time but I've never talked to him cause he gives off the vibe of being a first rate a-hole. I was just wondering what you all had to say about his column and opinions.

I don't know who he is.

But maybe you should bait him into a confrontation next time you see him in public. If he's such an a-hole, he'll probably do something dumb.

Haven't read anything written by Scooter in a while. What I remember reading was pretty funny and entertaining.
I don't think the articles "mocked" the LSU program.

I do. I don't get that vibe at all. Love his columns. If he has disdain for anyone, it's Saban.

He's a pretty solid columnist especially during football season.

Scooter has been nothing but pleasant in my interactions with him over the years. And I don't agree with your view that his writing mocks the program.

Sat next to him in a literature class at LSU in 1976 or he sat next to me.

he wrote for the reveille when i was in law school and i loved his work. he did a parody of the MLK speech where the dream was to beat Alabama and it was great, never forgot it.

i think he can be irreverant but from what i know he does not mock LSU

I don't care for him either, and sometimes (not all the time) I feel he looks for the bad news to report on LSU. Just my opinion.

Guava Jelly works with him occasionally and knows him, I'm sure he could give an insight about him. But one thing he has told me is that Scooter is an attention whore and writes his columns knowing that people hate what he is saying.

Haven't read Scooter in quite a while, but I used to love his articles. I never got the impression he had it out for the program.

Talked football with him a few times at OB's and Cajuns Warf. He's pretty approachable, doesn't hate LSU but calls out certain aspects if warrented.

Lived in & around Lake Charles most of my life & have read plenty of Hobbs. While he would give LSU its due at times, he never would pass up an opportunity to point out mistakes, mishaps, blunders, etc. in a really negative manner(most deserved)... Idk, seems to me LSU being our state college & having developed such a great program...he could cut slack at times. IMO

He does the best job covering LSU football, period.

I think he's a very good writer. He somewhat defends GG if you ask about him, but knows to set himself apart.

People who take offense to hypercritical views of LSU athletics should stay clear of all opinions outside of LSUsports.net.

Scooter was sports editor of the Reveille when he was a student. I always looked forward to his columns - funny and irreverent, but never anti-LSU. Also lived down the hall from him in the dorm. Let's just say he was a real character and leave it at that.

He's not.. I read his columns, and we have some mutual friends. Scooter is a good sportswriter, unlike GG who is a troll

Some folks pucker string is wound so tight they can't appreciate tongue in cheek humor. Relax, its just a game.

Seems to me that sports writers can't win. They either too critical or they are a shill for the athletic dept.
They are supposed to write the news. If a kid/team/coach screws up, it's news and you write about it.
My old man was a newspaper guy 1or 2 generations ahead of guilbeau and Hobbs. They all know each other and mostly have the same amount of access to the team and coaches .
They see the same stuff every year and so they don't get too excited ie: Hobbs column about spring games a week or two ago. They are mostly the same every year and coaches say the same shite every year. It can be a chore to find something interesting to write about.
Also, many of them were at LSU around the same time and interned under SID Manasseh so they trained under similar conditions.
I've been around Scooter and he's a good guy with a good sense of humor
