Saw this on TV and I always thought it would be awesome. A pool that looks like a pond.
Interesting facts I found:
Cost is about the same as a regular pool (but not many people build them in US yet)
Very popular in Europe
Maintenance costs are much lower than traditional pools.
Plant life on outside acts as natural filter and cleans the water
Excavated similarly to a normal pool, then a layer of tarp and pebble laid down to keep water clear.

Anyway just wanted to share. I'm hoping these become more popular in the US soon.

Yes they would. It's part of the process of making the pool. It's filtered and all of the dirt is separated from water.

It's still got a pump and natural filter it's not just a hole in the ground with water.

I have always wanted to see someone near me own one to see if it stayed nice. I love these, but don't want to be the guinea pig.

Looks trashy. I bet people instantly regret not getting a regular pool after they build this

I bet, you make it nice without chemicals and the animals would like it too.

This has been my concern about it as well. They say that the wildlife that would be attracted to it would stay in the "plant area" and not go in the main pool. Well, that freaking plant area is still in my yard.

I don't need more wildlife in my yard no matter what area of the pool it gravitates to. I really don't see it working in the south where there's a much higher possibility of dangerous wildlife living in it.

I think you've just stumbled onto the answer of the question as you why this cool looking pool is not that popular in the US. Still, it does look cool. But kind of like those $100,000+ tree house, this just does not make sense.

...well as long as they keep that 6 foot distance from me, I guess it's not a problem.

As the snake lunges towards you. "DAVE, you promised he'd stay in the grass!"

That would be a concern for sure. Mosquitoes would be the worst for me immediately. We have enough to deal with already. No need for me to make them a bigger breeding ground on purpose.
