Moving to Dallas in a couple weeks. In the market for a new TV. I'm looking for something around $500.

I know very little about TV's and what's good or not so what would be the best route to go here? Plasma? LCD? etc...

TIA.

Get an LED. What size do you want?

I'd go to a best buy or wall mart and see which brand you like from the picture, then go online and find one cheeper (if possible).

This. Best Buy has cool displays and all, but their stuff is wildly overpriced.

And do not get Plasma.

I'd recommend it as long as it's within your price range. LCDs just tend to be bigger and bulkier than the LEDs and don't have as good a picture.

they have great deals on TVs periodically (and other things). In fact it looks like they have some cheap Vizios right now.

Love woot. They have good deals.

Side note. Amazon usually matches their prices temporarily so look at both

Why?

More screen and better picture for less money.

The best picture you will ever get with a plasma tv is the one you get when you first turn it on.
