We are moving into a new house and the person before us decided to let the lawn go to shite during the closing process. We didn't think to include this addendum in the deal since it was in average condition when we looked at the house. Now, with spring coming, weeds are popping up everywhere and there are a couple big bald spots of dirt.

I was planning on doing this work myself but the project combined with the house projects (nursery, painting, new floors, finishing the basement/man cave) I don't know if I have enough time to dedicate to this right away.

With all you lawn experts, what suggestions do you have to get the yard looking great in a couple months or who would you recommend hiring? I'm in Buford GA so no LA companies otherwise this would be done already.

Thanks!

water it, mow it on a high setting. The grass will kill off the weeds.

Really the easiest is the best. Treat with Bonus S every 6-8 weeks and add in a Ironite feeding about mid summer.

Right now you can spray for dollar weed, but honestly the yard didnt get this way just during the closing.

ETA: like mentioned above. Raise your mower. Too many people battle weeds because they think cutting lower keeps from having to cut as often.

Pee on it really hard. Like you'll have to drink a lot of water so it literally rips the dead grass out then you can plant new sod once it's all dead

Just start following this....if you do, you will have a great yard.

Randy Lemmon Fertilization Schedule

You can also get some good leaf mold compost if you have in your area, and spread over any areas that are bare....stuff is great and the yard will love it.

Also wouldn't hurt to maybe have someone come aerate it, and they could maybe lay compost at the same time.

They rent these machines at Home Depot. Anyone have any luck with these? I was going to wait until July to aerate mine... I think I missed the window for spring (already dropped some Bonus S).

Sprinkle with a healthy but even mixture of Mexican and Guatamalan.

Anybody have any luck with this? My lawn really needs the aeration to loosen the soil. I had one of the guys from TruGreen come by and look at it and tell me it needed it. I tried to get them to do it, but they'd never show up. I can do it myself, but I've never seen anyone do this.

I think now is a good time. The peak of summer may be too hot and dry out/burn out the lawn.

Midsummer is a great time to aerify. Middle of the growing season. Will promote growth.

From everything I have read this is correct. Aerate during growing season.

Outside of the growing season, you're not gonna get any recovery.

Go look at a golf courses greens a few weeks after aerification. You'll see greener grass spots where the holes were punched.

Great time for fertilizer and any soil amendments you wanna make as well. Get it straight to the soil.
