I'm bad with a pistol. Actually I'm horrible with a pistol. I'm awesome with rifles and shotguns because I've been shooting them since I was a toddler. Is there anywhere around Baton Rouge that has classes on shooting a pistol accurately? I mean the basics and all. I don't even know how to aim it right. It's pretty sad how bad I am with one. Also, how much would a class like that cost?
One more thing, my gun is a smith and Wesson m&p9 pro series. So I'm shooting an accurate gun. I just can't hit anything.

Practice. It took me a long time before I could hit anything smaller than the side of a barn that was further than 10 feet away. Start close and move further away.

Also, Bapple will have a video for you shortly.

I shoot it pretty often. Last time I put one of the big poweraid bottles at about 8-10 yards and shot about 10-12 rounds and missed every single time. I get frustrated and give up.

Are you using real bullets?

Probably holding it incorrectly if I had to guess. I am taking 2 classes from this VATA Group place in Slidell in a month, but I am pretty good at shooting a pistol to start with. Maybe you could try giving them a call. They train people for a living, so it seems like that's what you'd need

Try getting a big piece of white paper, like 4 x 4 and shoot at it, see where you are actually hitting, and adjust. Aim small, miss small.

I was thinking the gun was just way off sight but the "professionals" I've talked to say they're usually close from factory but have someone good shoot it to see if it's actually off. Unfortunately I don't know anyone that's good with a pistol or I'd get them to help me become better.

Definitely this.

When I first started shooting pistols I was horrible. I was amazed at how much I improved with practice.

I'm not understanding the difference in the chart between right and left handed shooters on that site. I'm a lefty.

Switch everything around except 12 and 6 o'clock. You're gonna have to get a bigger target(2x2) and see if you are consistently hitting the wrong spot first

Ex:
I had inch groups at 10yds, but they were all in the 8 ring at 9 o'clock. Saw that chart, and asked someone to show me how I was holding wrong. I had half of my finger on the trigger, and that was causing me to turn the gun to the left when I pulled the trigger. Slight adjustment, and I can bullseye shoot at 15yds all day long

I am no expert but I have had countless hours of practice and advanced handgun training. I'll just give you these few tips.

First get someone to help you get your grip right. It all starts with the grip.

Front sight front sight front sight. Front sight.

Did I say front sight? Focus on the front sight above and beyond the rear sight.

Practice with some snap caps to see if you are jerking the trigger. Get someone to watch you closely while you do this.

Good thread. I suck at shooting handguns. Maybe suck is the wrong word but I'm so uncomfortable with them. I do have fun shooting them though so

I'm gonna take a lot of advice from this thread and try to actually do something about my lack of skill in that department. I guess with any gun it's just shoot shoot shoot until you get really comfortable so maybe I just don't shoot mine enough.

No, shooting incorrectly is the worst habit to form. Get someone who knows what they, and you should be doing to help you out. They have to actively watch you shoot a few hundred rounds. Bad habits are hard to break

Jerking the trigger is probably the most common user error that I have seen.

When shooting a rifle a little twitch can throw your round off a few inches.

With a pistol a little twitch can easily throw your round off a few feet.

If it's any encouragement. Improving your pistol shooting skills should also make you a better rifle shooter as well.
