I would put Nola above even Ben McDonald right now
He seems to be mentally tougher. He has much better control than McDonald did.
Physically McDonald was more overpowering but when you consider all aspects Nola is my choice. Reminds me of Greg Maddux.
If I had one game with everything riding on it give me Nola.

I'm not saying he's not great, but college base has made hitting a thing of the past. If McDonald played now he would be twice as dominant

nola has given up 3 runs all season. hard to get much more dominant than that

If this team can get to a super regional we have a chance against anyone with Nola. Purely amazing.

I'm bummed he was switched back to Friday, in that he would have been on ESPN tonight. I love watching him pitch. His stuff, demeanor, approach. He's special.

Curious if you watched Ben pitch his first couple years? Or are you just basing this on stats alone?

Oh, it was definitely the right call pitching him last night. Looks like tonight's tv coverage is a toss up anyway.

McDonald is one of the greatest college prospects in the history of College baseball. Simply put, Nola isn't. I think it is pretty difficult to compare the two since they played 25 years apart.

I wonder sometimes how much better McDonald could have been if he wouldn't have played Basketball at LSU as well for his first 2 seasons.

True, makes it a difficult comparison.

The fairest way to try to make one is to compare their numbers against their peers.

How does each rank in their era?

For example, Babe Ruth's home run numbers were marginalized somewhat by the steroid era, but when you consider how far and above his numbers were above his peers it shows how dominant he was.

Were Ben's numbers as far and above those of his peers then as it seems to me Nola's are now. I can't answer that.
