Which is best IYO?

I like the match light brands because it gets the whole process going quicker but many of my friends still use the lighter fluid/regular charcoal method.

Invest in a ten dollar chimney.

No reason to ever again deal with the taste or purchasing lighter fluid.

Regular for a group. If it's just me, I'm fine with the match light stuff, even get the bags that light sometimes.

This. Lump charcoal + paper towels + vegetable oil is all you need. Screw that nasty instant BS.

Use a charcoal chimney brah, It's honestly the best way. Use some newspaper to start it. When is your surgery for your tumor? Been praying for you man.

I use Kinsford regular and light in a charcoal starter with lighter fluid. Dump it in the pit and cook. No ine has ever complained if light fluid taste. I spray it in and light it right away.

Agreed. A chimney and a few napkins soajed in cooking oil is all you need. If Im not building a straught wood fire, I use royal oak to cook with.

The convenience of the instant light stuff is the appeal but it usually makes my food have a funny aftertaste.

What everyone else said. Chimney + lump. No fluid or instant light. I can smell someone ruining food 5 houses over if they light up a pit using fluid in the neighborhood.

Honestly, lately I have been using a handheld propane torch to light natural lump.

No clue if it is safer, cheaper, or healthier. Damn though, it is fricking sweet. nothing like a blow torch going off while lighting a pit.

Extra easy Light and then soak the charcoals with at leats 1/2 of a 10oz lighter fluid container. Let that sit for 5 minutes......spray another 2 oz of lighter fluid onto soaked charcoals.....let sit for 1 minute and 17 seconds. Strike match, back the frick away and throw match onto soaked charcoals. Burn til bright orange. set your food on top of and burn til done. Mmmmmmmmmmm.......
