Just more proof that Yahoo sports is a joke

We were going to release (or not re-sign as a FA) Will Smith, Malcolm Jenkins, and Roman Harper no matter what, so they shouldn't factor into this at all.

I guess you could argue that we released Sproles and Moore to be able to sign Byrd, but Moore was a likely release anyway based on his performance vs price and Sproles was declining. Overall, this is a clear + for us.

Bottom line, we were able to figure out a way to sign the top free agent with limited cap space and without losing any core players. If that's not an A++ then what is?

That is a joke....All of those players were either washed up or had become ineffective for us.

The only player you could argue was a loss is Sproles and he had a down year. That statement is full of tard.

Jenkins, Harper, Moore, Smith is addition by subtraction

Smith was old and injured, and was getting cut no matter what.

We replaced Jenkins with a better player in Byrd, and Harper was not that great this season.

Sproles was a loss, but they didn't drop Sproles because of Byrd, they dropped him because his salary didn't match his production and the team had other needs like RT that had to be paid. I like how they ignore that fact.

Moore was injury-prone, and is on the down-side of his career with a more than adequate replacement in Stills as well as possibly Tanner who is on the PS.

Saints have done pretty damn well this off-season if you ask me.

They retained their top-level RT, brought in one of the best safeties in the league, brought back Humber, Haralson, Morgan (cheap), possibly Bush if they match, and got some youth infused into the team. If they get a center at any point in FA or the draft than all needs will have been met and the team will actually be better overall.

Also, this site clearly doesn't really look at future complications at all.

Exactly. "Hey, they lost 5 guys that I've heard of and only added one. That's clearly 5-1=4 ... D"

Everyone of the players mentioned except Jenkins are declining. And we upgraded the FS spot with Byrd and not to mention the signing of Marus Ball one of the best safties in the CFL.

Jimmy Graham will sign a long term deal at some point in the near future. I guess that doesn't count either.

Signing two of the elite playmakers in the NFL this offseason gets a D grade??

The comments on the article call him out too:

quote:

This guy has no clue what he is talking about. Moore was living on what he did a few years ago. Was a complete no show for most of the season. Let's see how great he is as a Steeler. Sproles I wish we could have kept but its obvious Payton wants to get back to smash mouth football a little more. Harper and Jenkins are highly over valued players and Eagles fans will see why the Saints let him go. Smith was injured most if not all of last year and was due a big payday. Do some research fool, it's called rebuilding for a reason.

quote:

It is possible to have addition by subtraction - 2nd best safety to go along with a top 10 safety - offense will not suffer as much as is implied in your write up - considering the cap situation, I like the moves - of all those lost, Darren Sproles is the only one I regret, the rest were role players, average and/or declining.

quote:

you obviously dont do your research team by team. will smith and roman harper didnt contribute to our defensive revival last year. lance moore and darren sproles production both dropped and malcolm jenkins was just expendable when you could have jairus byrd and a safety dou that may rival seattles.

They don't even mention Strief, who is pretty fricking solid. Sproles is a legit loss, but falls under the "better to part with a year too soon than a year too late" mantra. Smith, Jenkins, and Harper are bad players. Would have been OK with keeping Moore at a reduced rate, but no biggie.

Why do media outlets think losing Will Smith, Roman Harper and Malcolm Jenkins will hurt the Saints? And what the frick does that have to do with attracting free agents?

THIS IS frickING STUPID RAWR

I was really worried about not bringing back Strief. He's more than solid.

This writer just heard long term Saints players leaving and figured it must be disastrous. He clearly doesn't know. How can you mention Will Smith when he didn't even fricking play? Not to mention the ridiculous cap hit he would cost. Lance Moore has played his way out. Jenkins has been OK at times, but overall a disappointment. Harper is a good in the box safety, but that is what KV is for now. He is not needed. Sproles will be missed in ways, no doubt, but his production declined each year he was in New Orleans.

Bringing Strief back, signing arguably the best FS, bringing back quality depth where it's needed at LB with Haralson and Humber were all moves I am more than happy about. The more I read about Lorig, and especially from Tampa fans, the more I like it. If they can bring back Bush I will be ecstatic. The though of Byrd, Bush, KV and Lewis in that secondary makes things happen in my pants.

The Saints are set up very nicely for the draft.

their season preview for the 2013 Saints season made mention that we'd lost a key player in former 1st round pick Sedrick Ellis.

yeah... they are totally fricking clueless.

of course they didn't elaborate any further either.

why do these assholes waste their time putting these kind of things together anymore?

Positives in FA:
Signing Byrd, Ball
Re-signing Strief, Haralson, Humber
Losing Smith, Jenkins, Harper

Negatives in FA:
Losing Sproles

Push:
Losing Moore

By my count:
8 positives
1 negative
1 neutral
