In respect to Tornadoes, where is the safer place to have a house?
Posted by TheCaterpillar on 4/4/14 at 11:13 am00
On top of a large hill/foothill
OR
Near/On the base of a large wide hill, but not a narrow valley by any means
I ask because my house is on the very top of one of the tallest points in Nashville and we had a tornado watch last night. Logic tells me the higher you are the worse, but I have no real clue.

Higher the better. Cyclone spins fastest at ground level. Most tornado death and much of the damage is the result of debris flying. Most debris is near the ground ...the higher you go up the harder it is for tornado to pull debris high.

there is an old rumor that hills are natural protectors from tornadoes.
Obviously that's not always the case, but if a tornado is headed your way, it really doesn't matter where it's located
