They were fun a few years ago. The man's a legend so you get the thrill of that. However, he added some girl to his performance, her name escapes me at the moment, but she tries to steal the whole show and it's fricking terrible.

So hope he gave her the boot. But he might have revamped the show even with her in it

His shows were great until he ditched his old band a few years back. As someone else just mentioned, he now has his younger squeeze as his trombonist/bandleader. I've seen the new band twice and they were just awful (first time) to bad (2nd time). So, the optimist in me says they're improving. His show at last year's Jazz Fest was widely panned and even prompted him to write a letter to the Times Pic ranting about his critics.

What are his must have albums? All I have is locked down and it's great.

I don't have his entire catalog, but Gris Gris, Gumbo and Goin Back to New Orleans are all great IMO.

Those three are very good. Add to that list the following:
In the Right Place
Desitively Bonnaro
City that Care Forgot
N'Awlinz Diz Dat or D'Udda

will do, thanks. I have a live vinyl album of his that I found in a garage sale at home that I really like. I can't remember the name though, I'll post it once I get home.

I always enjoy Dr. John but his Jazz Fest performance last year was a little disappointing.

I'm expecting his show coming up in BR to be better. He has to have made some changes after the criticism he got after the initial changes.

I'm mostly looking forward to seeing Johnny Sansone next weekend though. That guy is awesome.

That's probably "Trippin' Live" which is also very good. And, if your looking for him doing solo piano and vocals, he has two albums out that are very good: The Brightest Smile In Town and Dr. John Plays Mac Rebbenack.
