I need some ipad/iCloud help

hey guys when i first set up my icloud years ago i used my then work email address. i left that company 2 years ago and now every day about 10 times a day a message comes up asking me to backup to icloud and it gives me the old email address and asks for the password
i dont remember the password and obviously cant reset it since that email is not active
what are my options?

Can you just create a new iCloud account?
ETA: follow tilco's advice. Call apple support. Make sure you have your credit card that is associated with your iTunes account handy for verification. In the future, never use a work email address to sign up for a service, unless it's strictly for business. Gmail is free.

You should be able to reset it with a security question online then change the email address.
I think it's iforgot.apple.com but sometimes I forget the right address.
