Where are you going?

You may also include any other recommendations in Paris and/or from Nice to Rouen/Normandy.

The McDonald's in Paris have this awesome Manhatten Style BBQ sandwich with Poms frites on it.

The first place to hit up in France is two hours away on the TGV and the city of Lyon the old part of it on the Somme river.

100 percent L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon. I am going for lunch and I am ordering the "Experience" with loads of Burgundy.

Also check out Chez Michel, one of my favorite restaurants in the world. Info on that old blog I abandoned.

Also if you email me I'll send you my Paris map of places to eat.

In Paris I would walk around and look at the places in near proximity and choose based on the menu that night. You don't cab across that city for anything. The financial district, not even sure they call it that, has the nicest places, but still a ton of restaurants are outstanding. We ate an Asian style Iron Chef type of place for our one super nice meal and it was outrageous. Just on foot. My side of asparagus was $16. I had Dorad, or Durado fish just insanely prepared. Both filets were prepared one way with a sauce and the face, CHEEKS, and spine was fried with a sweet sauce. I mean holy effing crap good. If your hotel is expensive, just walk around and look at menus and drink wine between 4-6 pm, decide on a place and ask your concierge for a table when you go and cleaned up.

IMHO,uneducated opinion, a long, boozy lunch is always preferable to the same meal at dinner. Especially when traveling. After a long day, the last thing I want to do is endure a 3 hour degustation. But I will gladly take that same meal at 1pm. Your mileage may vary however.

Do not miss Regis Huiterie, which is basically a Parisian Casamentos. 3 types of oysters, Langoustines (when available), salted butter, bread, mignonette sauce and Muscadet is all they serve. Occasionally they have sea urchin.

My favorite bistro in Paris is Joséphine "Chez Dumonet" on Rue du Cherche-Midi in St. Germain.

Joel round hon
Le chateau brand
Les violins

Just warning you that the meal you are describing could easily hit $1500-2000 in Paris for dinner.

In Lyon (the starred restaurants are cheaper here), mere brazier was great too.

If you go south, I would highly suggest a day in Saint Remy De Provence...it is wonderful and not loaded with tourists.

If heading south, make a pit stop in Orange and Chateauneuf, which pound for £ is the greatest wine in the world. If you can make it to 3 or 4 of the houses (La Nerthe is not to be missed), you will be well stocked for the rest of your trip.

And Christ the Rose heading south. You should budget a half a case per day per person. To be safe.

Chateauneuf was a wonderful stop...

Avignon is a nice base for jumping around in the south as it is on the tgv line...

Or you could just keep going on it and hit nice (the city I would move to tomorrow if life were just that good to me).
