Is there a difference in OS Schools and St. Martin? Quality? Pros and Cons to that area?

Any good advice in chosing a neighborhood? What about Vancleave?

I live in Ocean Springs. OS high school is considered to be the best in the area, one of the best in the state. St. Martin is a smaller school but also a damn good school.

I've lived here less than a year but if you are going to live on the MS gulf coast i would recommend OS or Bay St. Louis.

Vancleave is north of I-10 and it's a country town. Not a whole lot there. Living south of I-10 puts you a lot closer to the gulf coast "activities".

Ocean springs is a great town with an awesome downtown area and seems like there is a festival or SOMETHING always going on for entertainment.

Thanks. I will be commuting to Mobile and my wife has a year long residency at the VA in Biloxi. From what I could find, OS looked to offer the most.

Do you recommend any specific neighborhoods? I have to sell my house here in Birmingham and we will probably rent for a year.

I graduated from St. Martin, and the school's adress is in Ocean Springs. SM is a community that's pretty much split between OS and Biloxi. There is the Gulf Hills neighborhood on the Back Bay which is nice. Elvis and Judy Garland had summer homes there. Across the street is Windsor Park which is also a nice clean cut neighborhood. Both of these neighborhoods are probably the nicest in the area.

Vancleave is a little up the road and isolated from much of the coast, but there are very nice and new neighborhoods being built up there.

If you have children and are deciding where to send them to school out of Vancleave and SM, SM is the much better school, and is one of the top performing in the state. That's if you don't want to send them to Ocean Springs.

Honestly, I can't offer you a whole lot of info on neighborhoods. We looked at some houses in Bienville place which is a nice neighborhood close to the high school. Not so close to downtown though. That's about the only neighborhood recommendation I can give ya.

I live in Ocean Springs and my house is on the market. You looking? Also, we love the schools and they are the best that I have seen throughout all my moves. Teachers are great and their expectations are high. Let me know if you are interested in buying a house.

I grew up in Ocean Springs. Its pretty much the best town down there to raise a family by far.

As for neighborhoods, depends on your price range really.

Sorry GCTiger, you're excluded, but St.Martin was a lot trashier than OS by far. OS is still located in Mississippi mind you, but if you want a little more enlightenment per 1,000 residents, it's where you need to be.

I couldn't be more excited in hindsight that my parents chose to reside there over the other options. Dad was military so he had to be there

As a whole, you won't get any argument from me there. But like you said, they all have trashy places.

I will rent for a year or until my house sells here in Birmingham. Once that happens and if my wife gets a staff pharmacist job there I will buy. The Corey Court neighborhood looks ok. There is a boat lauch near it which is a plus.

The Ole Beachview Boat launch.

There is also (or was Pre-K) another boat launch at the very end of Beachview. Take a right at the end and a left on Lake Mars. Appears to be there per Google Earth. That one lets you out right into the Ocean, as opposed to pulling through the Bayou at Harbor Point.

I might just head back home some time this month to get fricked up downtown in the nice weather.

No problem. I wish I could be more helpful on the neighborhoods. I could tell you what we thought/knew were the nice neighborhoods when we were in high school, and what were the trash ball areas.

Its been 10 years now since I lived there full time and left for college, and a lot of new construction, etc. has probably changed things up a lot on that front.

But without a doubt, it is the town you want to live in. I enjoy visiting my parents and getting a brew dog downtown.

ETA: I had a buddy from Chicago who was very impressed by it. Loved the fact there was live music just about any where. Its no Chicago obviously
