How important will he be at the WC?

Yeah, he looked sluggish last night, but are we forgetting how dominant he was in the Korea game.

Last night was not one to remember, he'll still be a huge contributor come Brazil.

I hope he can get in shape and get in form, but he didn't bring much to the table last night.

I thought he was fine last night. You saw a couple of little glimpses on some of the breaks forward, especially through *the middle* (damned phone).

He apparently was having some minor knee issues during the week, and came into the game after it had kind of turned into an end to end scramble.

He got dispossessed more often than normal though.

Donovan will be fantastic as usual on the biggest international stage. He is going to be one of greatest and most dynamic players we have. His first touch is pretty much unparalleled among the USMNT. His crosses especially from corners are exquisite. He is a quality finisher and perfect PK taker (if JK has Dempsey take another PK, then I will kill him).

Ever since Donovan put the team on his back in 2010, all that has happened is he got questioned for this and that. That is bullshite. Donovan always come through. Older players kick arse at the World Cup.

Those straight lines runs he was making at the end of the end was sick. He just took on everyone and not in a shitty GAM way.

He definitely will have to be if we want to do anything in the WC.

I'll take it a step further and say that he is still our most creative, intuitive and dangerous player on the ball (outside of Bradley).

Even if he gains 200 pounds between now and then, Donovan better be our PK taker. He routinely makes GK's look foolish.

I will admit that this relieved me a bit, because after his first 20 minutes on the pitch he looked disinterested, slow and tired. But it seemed like once he realized what was going on, he found his burst of speed.

I'd love to see him play a central role behind a poacher type striker. Unfortunately I don't think we have an international level striker of that quality.

I expect Zidanesque roulettes and a shite ton of goals.

Seriously, this will be his swan song, and he´ll go out having provided some important leadership and stability. I think we´ll see some pretty admirable isolated moments.

He will be important in WC2014.

I think he can be kind of fat and still play well, but I really hope he gets into top shape. As some of you have said, it's his last hurrah. He should bust his butt the next two months to be at his best and he can do whatever he likes after the world cup (I'm not a galaxy fan, clearly.)

I think this is where he would flourish most with us, but no way will JK favor Donovan over Dempsey.

Dempsey´s play may force his hand......

I know, which is disappointing, because I see a lot of potential for Donovan in the withdrawn forward role if paired with a striker who runs his arse off and gives him space. Dempsey is a slower decision maker, which is annoying, but he's also best as a trailing striker, making late runs into the box. I'd rather Dempsey play wide left with Donovan central, and a winger who will stretch play on the right side. We won't see it though.

Yah, Clint seems to be on a steady decline. I hope it's not permanent, but at 31 I'd be shocked if he ever regained his Fulham form.

The problem with Dempsey on the wing is that he doesn't track back at all anymore. Donovan still does attempt it, although it's still a slight liability.

One thing that did encourage me was Donovan and Yedlin appeared very dangerous on the right side. Nice overlapping runs.

On the left side, was Parkhurst prohibited from even dabbling with his side of midield?

Donovan is honestly the best Pk taker I have ever seen. I remember people were fawning Swagotelli having a 100% rate at one point, but Donovan's are just so clinical. Every single one is well struck and on frame. His career Pk conversion rare is well above average even among great Pk takers.

Also, those runs at the end of the game were shades of Algeria. Dovonan will be pure class. There is reason Mexico fears and abhors him.

There are three players I have ZERO concerns for in Brazil. Donovan, Bradley, and Howard. All three should play every second of the WC.

I must have been dozing off or something. Seemed like he did a lot of dribbling at people but that he kept losing the ball.

Seems like we'll need to score on the break against Portugal and Germany, and Donovan is still dangerous (our most dangerous?) on the break. I hope his fitness and form are such that Jurgen has no choice but to play him. Otherwise, I could see him riding pine, if not sitting home. Is it really likely that JK would not take him?

I think there is a .000001% chance he stays at home if healthy. I think he'd make the final 23 at 70% health, honestly.

Bingo. I would be ok with Clint-Landon-Zusi/Bedoya.
