Looks like nobody can catch a break in the gaming industry these days.
Does this mean no Rare games this gen?

People have been predicting a crash for a while now. Too much money is being spent making some of these "blockbusters".

Game Production costs need to level somewhere. It's been getting ridiculous for a long time.

i think the big thing that needs to be taken from this is that new indie title Habitat looks fun

WoW sucked in a bunch of new gamers and they though that it would branch out, but people are looking for something new and exciting now and it's something that companies are not delivering be it lack of imagination, technology, or material. Better FPS is nice but at some point you have to give the player and "experience" Half Life, Bioshock, and Mass Effect have been those games for me.

I think it has a lot more to do with the restructuring going on in the Xbox division. With the Phil Spencer promotion (which is freakin awesome), they are combining the Xbox, Xbox Live, and Microsoft Studios teams.
I hate that people were laid off (only 2 confirmed that I've seen), but I think everything going on in the Xbox division is headed in the right direction.

Additional layoffs are expected this week across all divisions of the company, both domestically and internationally. Sony topper Michael Lynton told Variety that both the $250 million the studio identified and the addition $100 million that it worked with Bain & Co. to cut has been determined. That additional slashing will happen over the next two years.

Playstation is my baby. Only Sony product I own. Get it right.
Posting links to movies and other stuff is just funny. Gaming division doing just fine.
