picking a name for your kid
Posted by KG6 on 4/2/14 at 9:18 pm00
How do you make this decision? Even when I find names I like, it's hard to say "that's definitely the name I want my child to have for the rest of their life". We're finding the gender soon and we're going to have to eventually make a decision.

I can't pick a name for a dog much less a kid.

We settled on the one I couldn't think of a witty tease for.

Go with either Wendy or Squints

It is difficult. Husband and I both kinda wish we would have picked our oldest daughters middle name as her first name
For the record, I wanted that all along but went with the current first name because he liked it better.

It's hard. I agreed to the one I thought sounded the least gay.
First, start with a list of names each of you hate:
"ugly people" names like Rhonda, Bessy, ect
maybe one of ya'll hates names that could go either way like Jamie, Casey, or Taylor
people who were annoying or mean to you, ect
That should narrow the list down tremendously. Next, make a short list of family names that each of ya'll like. Maybe she has a great grandfather with a cool name. Maybe half your male ancestors were named William or James or something. Maybe she really loved her grandma and wants to name a daughter after her.
This should give the two of you a list of half a dozen or so names for each gender which ya'll can slowly weed out over time. Once the kid is born, let it "choose" it's names with its actions.

Wait til he's old enough and let him name himself?
16th birthday: pick your name

We've got the girl down. Or at least down to two that we would both be happy with.
I really want the name Guy for a boy. It's got the french heritage plus its kind of a family name. She doesn't like it. We have other names that I like, but it always kind of sucks knowing it's not the one you want.

Let us be the judge. What names are you thinking?
