I was issued a ticket that I need to contest.

What is the proper protocol? This is in the lovely town of St. Gabriel, Louisiana. Beautiful place.

A good start would be to show up in court at the designated place and time.

It helps if you are in a suit and carrying a briefcase and stern look.

There should be a "court date" listed on the ticket. That is the date that you have to enter your plea by. You need to go to the parish courthouse, enter your plea of not guilty, then you'll be assigned a court date to which you'll see a magistrate. That's when you'll contest your ticket. Good luck though, depending on the violation, your success rate may not be so high.

1. Take a wide stance.

2. Take deep breath.

3. Stretch arms and back.

4. Lean forward until head is between legs.

5. KISS YO ARSE GOODBYE.

Can I enter a plea before the court date? Or am I required to show up on that date to enter plea?

Either way, it's not a problem for me to go. I just want to follow the proper protocol.

Go to court on your court date
Wait 7hrs just to say your name, address, and, "I plead not guilty"
They give you a trial date
Show up for trial and argue

Eta: you have to go to court on your date to enter a plea

If you contest a St Gabriel ticket, don't be surprised to see 5 cops showing up all saying they saw you speeding

You should be able to go before the court date to enter your plea. Here where I'm at, you don't even see a judge on the court date on the ticket, you go see a court clerk who sits at a bank teller style window, tell him/her what your plea is, and they give you a court date to see the judge if you plead not guilty.
