The "deadline" today, what was that? Was there a window for open enrollment and I have to wait until this time next year to enroll?

My wife works for a non profit and I was planning to enroll her in an exchange.

You had to at least start the process by yesterday and they would give you a couple weeks to finish up.

Edited to add: Go to the Poli Board. They know more about this stuff than I do. They will be very helpful, as most of the guys over there have gone through the process.

They will probably extend the deadline, but the deadline was only for the penalty/tax of not having insurance.

There are circumstances that allow for extensions, and if you don't fit any of them, you can still appeal. The next open enrollment starts in October for coverage starting in January. All the info is on the healthcare.gov website.

You may have opened yourself up to a penalty of 1% of your HH tax income, taken at tax time next spring. Or $95 per person in your Tax House Hold.

Whichever is greater.

Good luck.

But, they can only take it from any refund you have coming to you. They cannot make you "pay" it otherwise. Just make sure you owe some tax payment.

Why didn't you add her to your policy?

Why would you wait until the day after the deadline to figure out you needed coverage?

Around 90% of returns have refunds.

Legislation is being drafted for it to be a normal tax debt. Lien on your house, etc...

That just means their site is broken. But you got a couple of weeks now. Maybe try from scratch again.

Adding her to my policy is too pricey. My insurance is cheap but the company doesn't pick up any of the premium after that. It would be almost half my monthly salary to insure both of us and almost all of it to include my kids.

I saw a handful of folks on my FB stressing about signing up yesterday. Not one of them was surprising to see in that situation.

Because someone making a profit in America is against everything this country was founded upon.

Worst advice Scruffy has ever read on the OT.
