They take into account Louisiana's money provided to the government on oil?

These types of comparisons are worthless. Just because more companies are headquartered in certain states those states will pay more federal corporate income taxes.
That's why Delaware leads the list.
Once again this proves there are three types of lies: 1) lies, 2) damn lies, and, 3) statistics.

This is not exactly true. They're meaningful for what they tell me about the posters who post this stuff who think they're revealing some sort of great 'gotcha.'

Methodology
After reviewing previously published literature on the issue of state dependency as well as the correlation between federal funding and state taxation, we concluded that the following three metrics would best elucidate each state’s true financial independence, or lack thereof, from the federal government.
Return on Taxes Paid to the Federal Government – Weight: 1
(Federal Funding in $ / Federal Income Taxes in $) This metric illustrates how many dollars in federal funding state taxpayers receive for every one dollar in federal income taxes they pay. We have excluded from the Federal Funding the Loans/Guarantees component because it does not represent permanent transfers from the Federal Government to a state.
Federal Funding as a Percentage of State Revenue – Weight: 1
(Federal Funding in $ / State Revenue in $) * 100 This metric shows how much of a state’s annual revenue, and theoretically its spending, is provided by the federal government. Without this money, revenue would have to be found elsewhere – perhaps via tax hikes – or else key state services would suffer.
Number of Federal Employees Per Capita – Weight: 0.5
(No. Federal Workers / No. State Residents) This metric speaks to the federal government’s role as a nationwide employer, indicating the percentage of a state’s workforce that owes its very livelihood to Washington.

Not me. I'm not emotionally invested. The numbers are interesting. Id be embarrassed if cold statistics upset me, much less defined my views.

They should let the red states secede then they could balance the budget

Nearly the entire south except Texas and Arkansas receive more money from the federal government than they put in. Mississippi is like the poorest state in the nation. Texas would eject you so fast from the New confederacy to save its budget.

No we would just cut off all the welfare queens and bloated farm subsidies like we should

Within ten years they'd all look like Somalia or Haiti.

Is the royalty money from oil fields over three miles off-shore factored into that number? Because of a ESSC decision in '68 Louisiana gets paid on those waters every thing else goes to the feds. Guess who controls the fields where most of US oil comes from off-shore?

I'm not sure, but that would only account for around $3 billion of it.

Statistics are like bikinis. What they reveal is interesting. What they hide is VITAL.

Study is worthless unless they factor in the amount of money each corporation pays federal taxes and fees for each of their satellites in each state. Instead, it just takes where the corporate offices are and gives that money to the state the headquarters is at.
Exxon is a perfect example. Tons of money from Louisiana goes through them to the government, but Texas gets to claim it since the Exxon headquarters is in their state.
