Why get Obamacare? If all these people that opt out show up to an ER they will be cared for. They wont pay the bill (like they dont do now) and it will be passed on the others or govt will step in and pay. Why spend the money?

The way to force people to sign up is no entry at the ER door or the urgent care door without insurance/cash/credit card to cover your bill. Period. That will change behavior one way or another.

I *think* what he's saying is that the real problem is covering people that don't pay their own bills.

Would only extend the problem to everyone.

That is not a politically viable solution even among more conservative republicans. If you're that deep into right-wing dogma, you need to come up for air.

I don't think it's dogmatic to note that there are a LOT of people that are unable and/or unwilling to pay their own bills.

As we debate this, I keep going back to the sub-prime collapse of 2008 and the endless media stories about all those who were unable to continue paying their mortgage. How are we to believe that six years later, all these same people will be able to come up with what is an additional monthly mortgage payment? Can you answer that for me, Sir? How will middle America come up with another $500 a month for healthcare premiums? Where will these people find this cash? What am I missing?

I wasn't saying that. I was saying that the suggestion to refuse treatment to those who can't afford it is going too far down the libertarian rabbit hole.

That would not fly politically. Agreed.

what behavior, exactly, is causing me to have a burst appendix or a stroke or Heart attack at 2 AM?

At 2 AM, I'd suspect sleeping.

Those are some of the reasons why ERs are in existence. I think what people don't like is people going to the ER for every little ache, pain and sniffle. They SHOULD be refused service.
