Official Comic Book Hero Tournament (Round III) Results In!
Posted on 4/1/14 at 11:17 am
Posted on 4/1/14 at 11:17 am
The Rules:
1.) This is a two sided bracket. Each side contains 64 comic characters.
2.) The left side of the bracket will be Heroes the right side of the bracket will be villains.
3.) Each bracket will be comprised of 26 Marvel characters, 26 DC characters, and 12 misc comic/novel characters.
4.) Once all of the characters have been selected, the names will be entered into a random generator and spit out 1-64. The match-ups will be set regular seed style (1 vs. 64, 2 vs. 63, etc.) Please note that the number does not represent their seed, but instead the number they drew.
*** Do not be surprised to see Cyclops vs. Rick Grimes in Round I
5.) The voting system will be a simple check mark system. You will simply select the name of the character you think would win each match-up. I will go off of the general consensus. If there is an instance where the voting for a particular match-up is close, I will open the floor for members to make their case for who should move on. I will have the final say in such situations, but I promise to be as fair and impartial as I can.
6.) All voters are asked to put bias to the side. We must assume that these match-ups are completely random (As if it is the first time each character has encountered the other character.) Hopefully this will cut down on some of the knighting... cough Batman cough...
***So it would probably be safe to say that Batman would not be walking around with the Muramasa Sword.
***In the case where you have characters who cannot be killed by normal means (Wolverine, Deadpool, Thor) then a knockout or incapacitation will count
-Hulk Vs. Thor (whoever could knock the other one out first or incapacitate)
-Wolverine Vs. Deadpool (Same)
-These are just general examples
7.) Each character will be considered to be at their peak with no additional augmentation.
***Example: Cable w/ his technorganic virus under control, or cyclops w/ full control of his optic blast. No Nova with the Worldmind & Full Nova Force or Doom with The Beyonder's powers.

Round III
Match #1
place #1: Firestorm
place #2: Zatana
At first I figured he could just turn the air in her lungs to something else to shut her up. BUT, how does he know her power is spoken. She can easily cast a spell before Firestorm realized this
Match #2
place #1: Shazam
place #2: Hellboy
Match #3
place #1: Wonder Woman
place #2: Black Bolt
This one was really tough to decide
Match #4
place #1: Hulk (Planet Hulk)
place #2: Ghost Rider
After reading up on both, I had to change my mind on this one.
Match #5
place #1: Superman
place #2: Power Girl
Match #6
place #1: Spider-Man
place #2: Flash (Barry Allen)
Match #7
place #1: Ms. Marvel
place #2: Green Latern (Hal Jordan)
Very tough decision. I think that the ring has too many other weapons that don't depend on Ms. Marvel coming in contact with the constructs.
Match #8
place #1: Jean Grey
place #2: Thor
Gotta go with the Thundergod on this one

think this one might need some good debate. i dont think ms marvel would be able to absorb hal's constructs, so that limits here there.
im thinking the ring would give him the edge on this one.

Match #1
place #1: Firestorm
place #2: Zatana
Probably the match I know least about. I'm going with pure fire-power this time. (And seriously, Zatanna should be nullified at some point. We've done it to Beetle, We've done it to Strange, she's getting the "all-powerful" treatment.)
Match #2
place #1: Shazam
place #2: Hellboy
Hear me out on this one. Shazam is magical, Hellboy, he's built to fight the occult, the extradimensional, the magical. He can take a beating and:
Match #3
place #1: Wonder Woman
place #2: Black Bolt
Wonder Woman meets her match here. Black Bolt is a Tier 1 character. He has experience, durability, and the powers needed to take most of the rest out. I don't think this one is close.
Match #4
place #1: Hulk (Planet Hulk)
place #2: Ghost Rider
Poor Hulk, bad matchup. Post World-War Hulk GR is a beast.
Match #5
place #1: Superman
place #2: Power Girl
Boring
Match #6
place #1: Spider-Man
place #2: Flash (Barry Allen)
Spider-Man likely to get crushed.
Match #7
place #1: Ms. Marvel
place #2: Green Latern (Hal Jordan)
Best Matchup of the round maybe (or Hulk/GR), and I would take Lantern against 90% of the round, but not Marvel. She's got too much. Too much speed and strength, combat training, etc. Throw in Binary form and it's close to no contest. But I wouldn't be surprised if Lantern wins.
Match #8
place #1: Jean Grey
place #2: Thor
Thor is too much of a warrior for Jean. I'd take her over people who rely simply on pure brute strength, but Thor isn't like that. He's too fast, too hardened, too powerful. There's also Warrior's Madness, if he gets there against Jean, ball game. FWIW, Xavier did break Thor during AvX, but I don't think a one on one fight gives Jean enough time to attack and take him down.

I'm leaning towards your thought process with this matchup.
And I'm going to need to her some of the pro Firestorm people give their explanations on how she can defeat a sorceress as powerful as Zatanna, who can perform just about any feat as long as she says it backwards.

Wouldn't Jean just have to attack him mentally to get him? She is an omega class telepath.

Do people think Jean shows up and says, "I'm controlling your mind?" It doesn't generally happen that way, especially for someone of a celestial origin.
Like I said, Thor has been broken, but it takes time or a lack of focus (Thor being focused on someone else...happened to him during AvX with Xavier attacking). But in a one on one match...Jean's all alone. And it'll take work to control him.
I'd like to see the argument about if Thor throw Mjolnir...can Jean stop it?? If not, that's the game then. Not sure if that magic surpasses her telekinetic ability. I'm assuming it does.

I'm not talking about trying to control him. I'm just talking about a telepathic force blast that kills his mind.

firestorm is more science but performs "magic-like" feats. he can change anything at a subatomic level. he could wreck havoc on Zatanna I would think. she can only do so much and speak so fast. I feel like Firestorm could change the ground around her, while shes fixing that, he can unleash nuclear power.
its an interesting science vs magic fight. but with so much at his fingertips, i think firestorm would be too much for Zatanna to overcome.
