any advantage to buying in to a vanguard fund directly vs. an online broker?

I only have about $5k in my scottrade account: a couple of funds I bought that had $1k mins and some assorted stock. I've been thinking about buying VTSMX (min. $3k). As the subject says... any reason I should buy directly from vanguard? Scottrade will charge me $17, I believe. However, I like having a single place that I can log in and show me everything without having to go to separate sites to view my balances.
