Hope you all signed up by midnight last night for your mandated insurance policies

Of course, unless you used the honor system and lied about being burdened by not having enough time to sign up over the past 6 months

Predictions on numbers they will claim?

7.25m "Signed up" (Added plan to a cart)

Real numbers:

5m purchased a plan
4m paid for their first premium
1m are actually newly insured

I don't believe there were any laws mandating that you must own slaves

And, most of the 1 million newly insured, most will have been the previously uninsurable (pre-existing condition, older and sickly, etc)

Thus, almost NONE will be the young, healthy ones needed to keep costs in check

I believe the target was for 38% or so to be 25-34yr old young/healthy.... At the beginning of March, they made up around 25% of the enrollees.

Here is my 'back of the napkin' math:

30,000,000 - # we were told were uninsured
330,000,000 - US population
9% - Justification for passing law

7,250,000 - # they said would make law a success
24% - % of supposed uninsured, so 'success' was only 1/4 uninsured to start with...

The below are very generous assumptions:
10% - signed up but haven't purchased
20% - had insurance, lost it, and repurchased
2,175,000 - participants that should not be counted

5,075,000 - generous assumption of net newly insured
17% - % of the original uninsured that are now covered
1.54% - % of US population that justified the rape of America

Are you really going without insurance?

If so, please keep us up to date on anything that may come of it.

Wow. Who said I wasn't planning on getting insurance? Your reading comprehension sucks and you are making assumptions.

I'm just trying to understand the young voters. They don't like Medicare and SS because they feel they are paying for stuff for old people that they themselves will never see any of the benefits from. They may or may not have a point. The young jump on the bandwagon of some political unknown who promises them better and cheaper healthcare coverage. Now, after the bill is read and implemented, we find out that the costs of this new law depends upon the numbers of young enrollees.

Presently, if the numbers of the young fall short then we all will see drastic increases in our premiums for next year.

For the young folks out there who voted for this law, you have now become part of the political mess in this country. For all that criticize those politicians and voters that say one thing and do something different, you are now part of the problem by doing exactly what you have admonished other people for.

Doesn't take long to get sucked up in the bowels of U.S. politics does it? I'll be waiting to see what your solution is to a problem that you are now partly responsible for.

If you're going to blast the baby boomers for the mess we're in as a nation then it's time to do a little finger pointing at yourself for not supporting a law that you once believed in, now that we know what's in it.

The Constitution is the law of the land and Obama ignores it whenever he feels like. Everyone should do the same with Obamacare, ignore it, don't sign up and don't pay his stupid tax.

and the only enforcement mechanism they have is to take tax refunds. i haven't had a tax refund in over a decade, and don't ever plan to have one again.

If it was indeed the law then no extensions or waivers would be given to any one or group for any reason at all. As it being selectively enforced it is not a law at all. It is a decision made by the King(emperor) at his whim.

Seems to me that if Obamacare is so great ... then Obama's approval rating would not be in the crapper.

Correct, and this "honor system" for the individual mandate only exacerbates this isssue.

No need to buy insurance today until you're sick tomorrow.
