sheer genius

I call upon the aviation industry to stop hiding behind costs and how much it costs and start ensuring that our pilots and our customers, our flying public, are safe. Why do we have the capacity, uh, to dismantle the transponders? Why wasn’t the emergency call already in place that it automatically signals when a[n] aircraft goes off its, uh, discerned or destinated — uh, destiny and destination – uh, as relates to, uh, its flight pattern. Why does it have to be done manually?

Bad grammar, good points.

All equipment related to the location of an airliner should be independent of manipulation by anyone on the flight deck nor in the cabin and be housed at the top of the tail or in some other part of the plane that is not physically accessible while in flight.

There is no plausible scenario where the flight crew would want to go dark for any reason that is not nefarious.

Can you imagine the field day the media and late night talk show hosts would have with her, if she were a white conservative?

But she's a liberal black Democrat, so......crickets.

A blind squirrel found a nut.

She is right, though.

Agree. Now if only someone in the media could articulate her unintelligent point as well as you did.

Grandfather it.

Not suggesting that all airliners be revamped.

Just using common sense.

Location data for a plane carrying 300 people should not be accessible physically or otherwise.

What is the counterpoint to my stance?

Crashing because a $5 switch in the cockpit shorts out and you can't bypass it?

The points are by now talking points and I give zero credit for coming out with German talking points.

How could a stand alone gps in the tail of a 777 take down the plane?

Hell, you could put an iPhone in a sandwich bag and duct tape it to the tail and track it better than what we have seen happen with this aircraft.

So you are not actually talking about the voice data and flight recorder that is the black box? All of that data comes from the cockpit. A GPS in the tail would be simple - if all it does if give coordinates. Not sure what purpose it might serve

One of ours pilots on this board said the switch could short out and if you can't cut power to it that it could very start a fire.

My iPad can find my iPhone anywhere in the world.

A 777 should not be able to disappear.
