Anyone ever been to Magpie Cafe on Perkins near Zippy's?

Their coffee/espressos/etc are unbelievable. I am not a big coffee drinker because I don't care for it unless it is loaded with cream and sugar.

Their drinks, I don't add anything to it. No bitter taste, etc.

Any other good places in BR?

CC's and Starbucks don't count because their drinks contain about 10% coffee.

If you catch the coffee in the design building at LSU at just the right time of day, its good. About 1:20 everyday nets a good cup of black coffee.

Not a coffee house, but Latte e Miele used to pull a very decent real espresso. No foo foo drinks, just better than average Italian coffee.

Have you tried La Divina Gelateria? The NOLA locations do fairly decent coffee (again, Italian style). Beans are locally roasted, a custom blend specifically for LD.

In all of their years of existence they have never learned how to roast coffee, that is a big failure. Highland wins any contest you can imagine because the coffee is at best five days old from raw to roasted and packaged.

Magpie Cafe

This place takes itself WAY too seriously. I loathe the whole Gluten Free, Vegan, "look at me" crowd.

Pretentious much?

Meh. I could walk there and the iced coffee was good to me. Then again I use a Kuerig at home so you can pretty much ignore me.

I like Latte e Miele. Great espresso and very good food.

I went to Magpie once for lunch and there was nowhere to sit, so it was stuck eating outside in the dead of summer.

I have tried to return since, but the parking in that area makes me want to kick people.

You are correct, everytime I've been there, it was packed.

That right there should tell you something, the place is good!!!

Owners James and Lina used to post here now and then; they are wa-a-a-ay too busy now. No doubt their coffee is just amazing.
