blackouts have everything to do with attendance.

unless this is about something else, which makes OP suck dick for not linking anything about this situation.

Rockets fans would disagree.

last season the Astros made the move from Fox Sports to Comcast as their RSN. The network got in squabbles over price with providers and to this point nothing has been solved. CSN Houston is in bankruptcy protection, the Rockets, Astros and Comcast are trying to work something out through court mediation but we're still no closer to having the team on tv.

Most of the Astros broadcast territory is unable to watch the games and Jim Crane had been lobbying for MLB.tv blackout restrictions to be lifted so that Astros fans could watch.

why would they switch from fox? just about everyone is on fox. that's a dumb move, especially to go to comcast.

how the frick are you supposed to watch games? what a shite show.

This has to do with the TV contract dispute. Astros can't get the network picked up locally so those who in the TV market who don't get it (which is a lot of people) are still blacked out when they try to watch on MLB TV or extra innings . I don't understand why those outside the Astros TV market would be blacked out on MLB TV though?

Or maybe he just meant outside Houston but still in the market

Money. The Astros own 46% of CSN Houston so in theory they stood to make a ton of money off of owning a large share of their own RSN. IMO, it was part of Drayton McClane's exit strategy. Hastily put together ownership in a RSN and use it to boost the selling price.

Exactly. The only carriers right now are Comcast and a bunch of other non factor providers. Dish, DirecTV, AT&T and so on haven't agreed to carried it. This will be season 2 that most fans can't watch.

Understatement.

I like baseball much more than basketball but it's really worse for the Rockets. They are having a great year and spent some serious coin on D12 and people still can't watch them.

Per MLB.tv blackout rules, those outside of the Astros broadcast territory can watch. Combine that with the disaster that is CSN Houston and it means that someone in Anchorage, Alaska has a better chance of watching the Houston Astros than someone that lives in Houston.

you know, I've been laughing at the Astros for some time now, but I just feel bad for y'all now. this is much worse than I thought.

I mean, the braves have a shitty TV deal, but at least we can still watch the games.
