Global warming dials up our risks, UN report says

YOKOHAMA, Japan (AP) — If the world doesn't cut pollution of heat-trapping gases, the already noticeable harms of global warming could spiral "out of control," the head of a United Nations scientific panel warned Monday.
And he's not alone. The Obama White House says it is taking this new report as a call for action, with Secretary of State John Kerry saying "the costs of inaction are catastrophic."
Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change that issued the 32-volume, 2,610-page report here early Monday, told The Associated Press: "it is a call for action." Without reductions in emissions, he said, impacts from warming "could get out of control."

"Things are worse than we had predicted" in 2007, when the group of scientists last issued this type of report, said report co-author Saleemul Huq, director of the International Centre for Climate Change and Development at the Independent University in Bangladesh. "We are going to see more and more impacts, faster and sooner than we had anticipated."
The problems have gotten so bad that the panel had to add a new and dangerous level of risks. In 2007, the biggest risk level in one key summary graphic was "high" and colored blazing red. The latest report adds a new level, "very high," and colors it deep purple.
You might as well call it a "horrible" risk level, said van Aalst: "The horrible is something quite likely, and we won't be able to do anything about it."

How many people do you think have read this report? I suspect every UN climate change alarmist got to throw in their 2000 bits.

Yeaah another thread where politards think they're smarter than 97% of the scientists in the world

The spectre of AGW that has risen the temp in 1.5 centuries of global records around the planet has to b so damning to some people such as yourself. The global rise is 1.5 degrees Centigrade for you to ponder. The UN people worrying about it have been around for less than fifty of those years which proves they are indeed so very smart in fact. All of those years that no one didn't know jack shite about the weather world wide are just so much BS to be examined by the smart people The little Ice Age ended 150 years ago just for you know about that, and how many and to what degree have volcanoes erupted in that same time frame?

Right? Those zany scientists with their "data."

Saw this article this morning.....what a bunch of BS.
Some common themes?
It's almost as if obamas speech writers wrote this article. I hope it was written on two-ply. These morons act like catastrophic weather events are exclusive to the last 15-20yrs. What about Hurricanes Camille and Betsy? Were they caused by "global warming" as well?

While the problems from global warming will hit everyone in some way, the magnitude of the harm won't be equal, coming down harder on people who can least afford it, the report says. It will increase the gaps between the rich and poor, healthy and sick, young and old, and men and women, van Aalst said.
quote:
"Rich people benefit from using all these fossil fuels," University of Sussex economist Richard Tol said. "Poorer people lose out."

Yawn. Another day with another GW thread. It's amazing to me that John Kerry has so much time to read through:
But I guess with the Polar Vortex cooling the northeast there hasn't been much good sailing weather.
Interesting the way that Rajendra Pachuari phrased his words:
They Could get out of control.
Could......as in may or may not.
And again, another thread where those that believe AGW is man made make statements that don't have anything to do with the argument such as "97% of scientists are smarter than you guys are".
That's not the argument. The argument is to what extent the climate change is man-made. Secondly, your 97% figure is bullshite. It's 97% of scientists that belong to the super special AGW club. That would be like surveying your local superchurch on the existence of god.
Furthermore, those that are promoting man made AGW have many significant personal benefits to be made if carbon credit legislation goes through. Just look at Al Gore's investments in carbon trading firms. It would be similar to Bill Gates running around saying the world is going to end if you don't buy a Windows surface tablet.
So just for kicks, let's assume that AGW is man made and we can do something about it. How do you control India and China's emissions? Are you willing to pay massive increases for everything you currently buy to offset the increase in costs from carbon credits? How do you keep the government from abusing their power to arbitrarily punish companies and executives they don't like and reward those they do like?

And only in the west - while the vast majority of CO2 emissions are coming out of Asia, China and India particularly (and, to be fair, they're trying to feed, clothe, shelter and provide energy to nearly 2 1/2 billion people between the two of them), and nothing - ABSOULTELY nothing will be asked of them. Nor will they comply, if it rises to the level of the demand.
I continue to see this for what it is - global wealth redistribution from the U.S. and Europe to Asia and Africa. But, that policy cannot be sold on that basis.
SO, they go with the, "We're all going to die if the US doesn't sit around in the dark and freeze to death."

Evangelists and acolytes yell Taxes!! But taxes don't mitigate the effects. Which makes me even more skeptical of their agenda.

What, specifically, do 97% of the world's scientists agree on?

Our Government will do what they do best...spend money and hire pseudo-intellectuals who can't be fired and will never be held accountable for the implementation of their misguided and calamitous Egalitarian Ideological policies.
But they are right about one thing as it relates to populations; and if they keep f'n around with the economic structures that underpin advanced civilization, they'll see their catastrophic scenario in the flesh. And it won't be caused by the weather.
Large populations are highly problematic, relative to the values which they serve. I love Beauty and Nature, and lament the impact that large populations have had on the Environment. But going Commie won't do a damn thing to fix the problem of getting over the hump and into the next high-tech paradigm. The political imposition of economic systems which discourage the creativity and invention of gifted citizenry in order to assuage the envy of foolish and less-productive (valuable) individuals/groups is utter insanity. "Don't muzzle the ox that treads the corn" (Biblical).
Any way we cut it...there are big changes in the cards. The bottom line is that either we pick and choose who gets what and how much to survive and prosper (per Capitalist/Merit-based criteria)...or we "spread the wealth around" with NO QUALIFYING CRITERIA. Subsidizing/promoting whatever. I'd like to say that such (Egalitarian) policy is Biblically sound...but truth be told...it is antithetical to even the Gospel of Christ. And Mother Nature. It'll flop big time.
Oh well...God willing...I'll watch "Noah" this weekend; and will probably go rogue on the board. What else is new.
