is this really news? i mean, isn't it kinda implied and/or expected for him to leave his estate, which would include the sports teams, to his family?

Well things can get messy. The Rams had some big problems when their previous owner died and there were issues with the kids being able to afford to keep the team. I think the announcement is just an "everyone keep calm, we got this" type announcement.

That plan was put into place when Dennis Lauscha was named president. He has been Bensons main man for years and not just regarding the Saints. He has a hand in everything Benson owns.
It's no coincidence that this plan started when Rita got a little out of hand and had to be sent to the punish corner by Benson. The family will own the team, but more than likely, it will be run by a board of directors.
