If you venture into either city's most dangerous area I would think NOLA is more of a risk. Imo of course.

no, detroit .. 100%. I've worked in both, NOLA isn't near as dangerous as Detroit

NOLA crime is blown out of proportion, for the general public, crime isn't bad.. if you get caught up in the wrong shite, yeah your chances of dying were high..

in detroit, everyone has an equal chance of getting murdered
