How likely is the following scenario:

The GOP gains seats in the House and Picks up a Senate majority in November.

Subsequently, it does just enough to shoot itself in the foot from 2014 to 2016 to make themselves increasingly unpopular with the American public to set up an easy Democratic Presidential victory in 2016.

Remember what happened 2 years later after the GOP took over in 1994?

it should only happen that easy. But. won;t be so easy if Hillary is nominee and no one else on Horizon. esp. if Repubs shoot themselves in the primaries again.

I would not put it past the realm of possibility.

Repubs are going to frick up 2016...

Rand Paul is the best chance they have and they will torpedo him in the primaries.

Did the Democrats winning back Congress in 2006 hurt them in 2008 after eight years of Bush?

Whichever party is in control is destined to frick it up.

It's called lack of leadership and greed. The party in power will do whatever possible to push their ideological agenda down the throats of people that don't want it.

Bob dole was an awful candidate in 96. R's had both houses in 98 if I remember right. If the GOP can try to pass legislation that is fiscally sound them it can help them in 2016

Its a long ways out and many things can happen between now and 2016.

But demographics and candidates are working against the Rs. the primaries are going to be brutal on the right, and could damage any contender.

should be fun to watch regardless though.

Just awful - makes McCain look like a dynamic pitchman.

"Bob Dole just wants to say to his fellow republicans, that Bob Dole is sorry that Bob Dole was such a boring, and easily beatable nominee."

I see Obama tarnishing the dem/lib brand so thoroughly over the next two years that the GOP would be very wise to run a Rand Paul or Scott Walker in 2016.

For God sakes run someone with a coherent fiscal plan. obamacare may well be on the front burner but its always going to be about the economy and jobs.

2016 is the time to run a Scott Walker or a Rand Paul and hope the dems nominate Hillary. Hillary is nothing more than a more masculine version of barack Obama and the country is Obama weary at the moment.

Yeah, Bill Clinton signed a bunch of Republican bills - bills Clinton had earlier vetoed -- in order to get reelected.

Obama is a lame duck and will never cooperate with the Republicans. Even if the Republicans got 70 senators and enough Reps to override any Obama veto, Obama still wouldn't cooperate with the Republicans because he's a far leftist ideologue.

I could see it happening. The Rs take the Senate and keep the majority in the house. Spend the next 2 years focusing only on gridlock and making Obama a lame duck. The dems play the blame game for about 6 months leading up to the presidential election, claiming Obama never had a chance with the Rs in control and the masses fall for it.

Romney shouldn't even be used in the same sentence as McCain.

Yep I agree. The biggest blessing Dems can get will be losing the senate.

Let the repubs control both for 2 years. Try to ram some social issues through and shite the bed like usual.

Sets up perfectly for a flip back to the Dems and winning Pres again

If repubs can actually get on the same page and the Huckabees and McCains of the world would sit down and shut up and let the Pauls and Cruzes of the party do work, then I don't think it's far fetched to hit for the cycle in 16 and own the Hill and WH
