Do you get more value in Texas than Louisiana (home-buyers)?

Decided to look at some of the real estate listings north of Dallas. $250-300K gets you a 3,000-square foot 10-year-old house with a community swimming pool, fitness center, bike trails, and tennis courts and a golf course within walking distance. In BR what does that price point get you? And why is it this way?

The suburbs of Houston (and I imagine it's the same for Dallas) have better home values than BR. Not so much the case when you get in the cities.

I have 2 friends that bought houses in the last year to 18 months- one in Ft. Worth and one in Heartland, TX.

Ft. Worth- 5 BR, 3 BA, 3000+ SF- $189,000
Heartland- 4 BR, 3 BA, 2800 SF- $190,000

These are brand new houses in brand new subdivisions. I couldn't believe how cheap housing was over there.

Believe it. Paid $184,000.00 for over 3,000 SF on 1/3 acre in a golf course community.

A few miles from Houston city limits, still in the burbs though. I can be downtown Houston in 45 minutes including average traffic. 30 min no traffic

Plus no state income tax in Texas. That's what people miss out on when they say that the property taxes are higher - that's true, but the lack of income tax balances it out for a lot of people.

Well put, depending on the taxes in your precinct. But, public schools are really good, so no real need to spend all that money on private schools.

Don't know where you live but I think your escrow is a little lite....
400k home Mandeville

1280 house note
520 escrow (but I don't escrow)

More realistic. (Unless you live in country)

However, Texas has no state income tax. There is no argument here, we(South La) get screwed on housing compared to Texas. Our suburbs(Metairie), enjoy your circa 1960 1,800 sq ft house for 240,000 that is blocks off of major highways with no true neighborhood. Their suburbs, enjoy your circa 2010 house that is 2200 sq ft for 240,000 that is in a drive in neighborhood with a community center, pool, and possibly golf course
