I'm always interested in hearing what tactics people like to use and why. I run a 3-4-1-2 with counter attack as the main focus and "balanced" when ahead, "attacking" when tied and "ultra-attacking" when behind. I spend most of my transfer budget on midfielders who can run as i rely on them to be able to get back and forth and sub them liberally when getting tired. I also look for cheap, strong defensemen and speedy young strikers. The idea is that if i can overwhelm my opponent in their box then be able to get back and play good enough defense to deny an easy shot, I should be able to score 2 or 3 goals a game while only giving up 1. On a change of possession i always look for a through ball to my striker to get a breakaway and if that doesn't happen then pull him off or pass to the end then try to cross it in or work it to the outside and look for something in the middle.

I never do 3 on the back line for FIFA, chip through balls will tear that to shreds every time. I do a 4-4-2 and mostly do give and goes with my strikers and midfield.

5-4-2

Speed on the wing backs and speedy midfielders. I've found that speed trumps anything else in this game even on the higher levels.

4-2-3-1, especially with a team like Liverpool who has a possession forward (suarez) to play the CAM role and a big, holding forward (sturidge) who can hold up play and finish crosses. Usually set to attacking so the wide players really push forward

I play 3-5-2 usually but switch it up with 4-1-2-1-2 every now and then. I mostly play ultimate team and use a italian/seria a/columbian based team. I typically like speedy guys on the outside as well and try to move the ball from the outside through the middle using my CAM (usually Tevez or Luis Muriel) and then distribute to my forwards. I usually stay "balanced" as much as possible but switch to "attacking" if i get behind but i never use "ultra attacking"since I find it usually exposes me in the back.

Nice thread I love talking FIFA strategy

i don't even rage quit, but man i am sick of super crosses and corners. a quarter of the time on corners my defender just freezes

also, the real madrid proliferation is just insane. even if you drop your team to 4.5 stars, at night you'll face real 75% of the time

Yea corners are b.s. for sure.

Speaking of which, anyone have a good custom corner they'd like to share?

I try a different formation each time I play a new career. In my current "Rebuilding the Moyes Mess" one, I'm running a 4-3-3 with a DM, two CMs, two wing backs and two wingers with Rooney dropping deep from up top at striker.

I've run a 3-4-2-1, 4-2-3-1, 4-5-1, 4-3-3 with a False 9 (one of my favorites), inverted 4-4-2 with high winger and traditional winger, etc.

I run with a 4-1-3-2, telling my DM to stay put for the most part and my two outside midfielders to run their butts off back and forth.

My outside backs are more like wingbacks, so in the attack my formation almost looks like 2-3-3-2, which sucks on the counter but luckily the wingbacks are speedy.

My forwards and outside mids all have 85+ speed, so I play a lot of through balls on the ground to them. I usually sit back pretty far on defense and then counter quickly (fast buildup play) if I can steal it from their midfield during the buildup. I've found pressing high results in far too many, long, crazy-accurate over-the-top through balls to their forwards and it's far too potent. Sitting back prevents this a ton.

I can't play FIFA 14 anymore (Edit: online, which is the only version I typically play). It's the worst of the series, IMO. I've got FIFA 96 on Sega Genesis. Rather play that.

I usually don't do this, but after noticing your posts in multiple FIFA 14 threads....
