His size stopped the dunk-a-thon they were having in the beginning. Monty should start him the next go around. finished with 14/11

As long as he doesn't make a bunch of stupid fouls, he can be a pretty good center.

for a mid season, euro league pick up, he's done quite well in spurts this season. his role next season should be third center off the bench with no more than 10 minutes a game, and I think he will perform damn well in that role

To be fair, this is the first place he's been where there's a level of expectations for defensive play. While consistency has been his biggest issue to date, he is showing some promise. Hopefully he can build on this and continue to develop for next season. We could really use a big body like him next do Davis.

Do you mean second center off the bench? You know . . .one starter and two on the bench.

He should be nothing more than a big body off the bench. He has played well in spurts. I hope if we keep Gordon, we can get a capable starter at C.

That's going to be the description of every big man we bring in. Face it, our front-court will primarily comprised for Davis/Anderson for the foreseeable future.

I understand that, but bringing in a C with a similar skillset to Robin Lopez isn't out the realm of possibility.

As long as he can tame the fouls, he could be the backup center. The fouls have got to stop. An offseason could actually really help him im this area.

he is worth more than 10 minutes a game. He has an above average offensive game, works the glass, and is a big body.

definitely agree.

also agree, but he's only averaging 16 right now, and that's with Smith and Anderson gone and not eating up minutes. i suppose, though, if steamer is gone (please), AA would probably stay around 15-18 MPG. i'd be happy with that, especially for what he's making.

He has a smooth shot - at least his free throw shooting is smooth.
Fouls too much - if he can clean that up he's the best we have by a good bit.

If he could consistently play even in the same ballpark as he did last night, why on earth would those other two stiffs see the floor (other than the fact we pretty much don't have other options )

I like the guy a like if he keeps up this effort.

But he can't, he's a matchup center like Aaron Gray was. Ryan Schwan summed it up pretty good in the game recap.

quote:

Ajinca is still strictly situational. Against mobile shooting centers, he’s a major liability. Against behemoth centers whose games keep them near the rim, he can be extremely effective. Tonight, he had a nice game against Jordan – just like he had ones against Howard, Hibbert, and Marc Gasol. His 14 points and 11 boards were almost as impactful as Morrow’s 27.

I agree. And actually I've liked Ajinca's ability from the start. He just needs some time.

Maybe so, and I'm certainly not advocating starting minutes. We need help at the position. I just think that help isn't Steimsma and it isn't coming from Withey anytime soon.

Exactly. I like Ajinca as the 2nd C off the bench, but by no means should he get starters minutes, outside of our current roster at the position.

Exactly why Ajinca should stay on the team. The plan next year should be to start AD at the 5. If we are going against a banger a la - Hibbert, Howard, Jordan - then we should start Ajinca at the 5 and move AD to the 4.

Problem solved. Monty you can let me know when you want me to come be an assistant coach any time now.
