Some baseball cities have such a rich history that almost any manager will win
Posted by mizzoukills on 3/26/14 at 9:28 pm14
I believe that certain MLB manager seek out, knowingly or subconsciously, destination jobs that will almost ensure them a World Series victory or two. Sort of "fate" jobs.
Some baseball cities simply have a magical aura that coaches, players, and fans are all tuned into.

is it the cities or the organizations? yes, its easier to win as a yankee b/c theyre more committed to winning than most. but managing/playing for NYY, bahstin, stl cardinals, dodgers have drawbacks, too.

To me, its a perpetual motion machine that feeds itself. Kind of like major cities. They can last a longer time off organizational inertia alone.
Some organizations won 60 years ago, which built a fanbase, which buys tickets/merchandise, which leads to owners being able to finance players, which makes it a great place for players to play, which brings in the best players, who win more championships, which brings in more fans, who buy more merchandise and tickets and on we go.

So $$$$$......It's more about front office/ scouting.....although in MLB, you can buy a good team. But really, its the Yankees and Dodgers that can buy enough free agent talent to compete. The rest of the league has to be smart. There are plenty of examples of teams without a winning history, winning recently......Rangers, Angels, Arizona, Colorado.......And I would argue the Dodgers are a prime example that refutes your argument have sucked the last 15-20 years in spite of being a storied franchise with great fan support.

Obviously there is several factors. I think the cities with rich history are usually bigger/more populated and bring in more revenue. Some of the older more historic franchises will obviously have a bigger fan base also adding to revenue. But like I said there or several factors that contribute to success or no small market teams would ever compete. Great owner/manager/farm system can work wonders in any city.

At the same time you're on an extremely short leash

Explain how Boston went 23809582390589023 years without a title then.

Joe Torre left St. Louis with no titles and was at the time considered an average manager at best. He goes to New York and boom, he's a genius.

He was excellent at deflecting blame from big names and keeping a good club house.
He was TERRIBLE with relievers, like borderline sadistic with ones that he felt confident in.
