and Shaq too of course. But Daddy Dale was unbelievable at LSU and I think his departure stunk (for the reasons they said). He deserves this honor and I sincerely hope JJ can bring back the excitement that Brown's teams brought in. So many memories. The PMAC was one rockin' place in my day.

I once got into a fight with Dale Brown. Not that Dale Brown. Just some guy named Dale Brown.

the recruitment of the guy that eventually went to Kansas. It is my understanding that Brown was cleared of wrongdoing later. Then he was shunned by the next coach. I was living away at the time and only got snippets of info but it seemed that Brown got a bad rap. The NCAA investigators most definitely wanted his head on a platter. The whom would have been the NCAA and the press reporting.

dale brown was lucky to not have been caught until lester earl...but at the same time, this was the norm in basketball and football during that time period.

ok, I forgot lester earl's name. what you young people don't seem to realize is that the older one gets the MORE they have to remember. often, y'all think it's a memory problem.

so while some guys only have to remember 10 or so years worth of players some of us old farts have to remember about 50 years of guys. and don't forget that alcohol kills brain cells so we've experienced more brain cell death.

You're referring to Lester Earl. And yes, Dale was made an example of. It was a travesty, really, but NCAA gonna NCAA

they kind of cherry picked a few coaches at the time to scare everyone instead of actually going after everyone. if you weren't paying players at that time, you were not going to sniff a winning season

Exactly. Dale was a great candidate because he had the audacity to speak out against the way the NCAA conducted business.

When Brown resigned, it was already time for him to go.

The LSU basketball program is what ultimately got screwed over by the NCAA.

You should probably add in your OP what you are congratulating them for...

I'll always wonder why Roy Willams wasn't punished by the NCAA. Lester Earl admitted that he lied and apologized to Dale Brown. I always thought back then, and still do, that Roy was in cohoots with Lester to bring down Dale. I know quite a few people who believe that the NCAA was in with Roy to bring Dale Brown down. Dale always spoke in public about how he felt about the NCAA and how they favored and overlooked certain schools who were committing infractions.

The "arrogance" to stand up to the NCAA and call them for what they were/are?

That's not arrogance my friend, that is standing up for what you believe is true. Yeah, by doing so he made himself and LSU a target. And how did the NCAA react? By doing exactly the gestapo tactics he accused them of.

frick the NCAA.
