French Quarter tourist restaurant rec

I have some out of town guests who are going to more formal restaurants later in their stay, but for the first night want a more casual, New Orleans experience in the French Quarter. They want to feel they are in New Orleans so atmosphere is first, and food is second. Still want good food, just does not have to be Stella or Restaurant August good. I was thinking of Remoulade or perhaps Mr. B's. Any thoughts?

Napoleon House is an interesting idea. Certainly long on atmosphere but how is the food?

Remoulade is a good choice for this. Also consider The Old Coffee Pot.

its been so long since i have been there, probably more casual type of stuff. worth stopping in for drinks though.
The Old Coffee Pot is another good one.

As someone who lives here I would never choose to eat there, but for the purposes of this poster's request I think it fits perfectly. The food isn't terrible, they actually make everything in-house from scratch, and it's a lively "New Orleans" atmosphere.

Food at Naopleon House is pretty meh, great atmosphere though.
Agree on Remoulade

i think most places in nola that thrive on atmosephere of being "new orleans" are for the better part, average with food.

Fair enough. I eat breakfast there sometimes when I stay in the FQ. Really like the grillades & grits

Mr B's for gumbo and bbq shrimp would be the first choice for me as far as fitting your description. I'd consider Nola second.

Mr. B's feels like the safest choice

Royal House. Sit on the balcony.

Muriel's
Bourbon House
For a big convention in town last year, I went out to eat in the Quarter about 6 times with the same large group and everyone liked Bourbon House the best, myself included. Everyone's least favorite was Arnaud's.
