This. Especially since we lost Sproles. That's 70 catches/yr.

I don't see us going BPA. I think there's enough depth in the draft to grab an OL in the later rounds and still be solid. Plus, the Saints are good for that.
Strief - Round: 7 / Pick: 210
Evans - Round: 4 / Pick: 108
DLP - undrafted
Just a few there...

On the flip side, we haven't had much luck with WR in the 1st lol

Nicks - 5th round
Bushrod - 4th round
Armstead - 3rd round (jury is still out on him though)

A lot of hit and miss with WR's in 1st round.

In the last ten years of the 43 WR from 1st round only 2 had 1000 yard seasons as rookies.

26 of that 43 never have had 1000 yard seasons.

Appears they have quite a bit of confidence in him though.

good point goat, really a draftniks worthy thread

/1st Rd Draft pick success by position

WRs are some of the riskiest.

Want some morning blues? Review the Saints 1st Rd WR picks-

Ken Burrough #10 1970, good player but they traded him away after one year, 10yr career for the Oilers

Larry Burton #7 Purdue 1975, 44 career catches, out of the NFL in 5 years

Wes Chandler #3 Florida 1978, Could have been the Saints best WR ever. So whad they do? trade him after 3 years. In the Chargers Hall of Fame

Lindsay Scott #13 Georgia 1982, He vies for the worst 1st Rd pick in Saints history. 69 catches and he was out of the NFL in 4 years

Donte "Hamstring" Stallworth #13 202, Was decent when healthy. Word was that he was the anti-type of what Payton was looking for in players. That might be why he was 5 teams in 6 years after leaving NOLA.

Some really good prospects in later rounds Blu. been looking at speed and hand size...yes hand size

Kevin Norwood Bama 6'2" 10" hands 4.48 40
Jeff Janis Saginaw Valley State 6'3" 220lbs blazing 40 of 4.42 but baby hands of 9".
Bruce Ellington 5'9" 198lbs 9 5/8 hands 40 of 4.45
Jeramy Gallon 5'7" 185lbs 9' 3/8 hands blazing 40 of 4.38 ( I like this kid)

Ellington's stock seems to be steadily rising. His brother Andre had a great year in AZ for a 6th Rd pick.

Archer also elevating, maybe 3rd or 4th Rd

Herron, Saunders the better late round options

Some of the scat back RBs could fit in there too. I mocked Devonta Freeman.

I like this kid too! Watched him play a few times. He tore ND apart... Good quickness, separation, and speed. Height obviously hurts him, but I feel like CSP can find a spot for him.

Jeff Janis= Beast
Also its really sad that guys like Toon can't even look remotely promising with a QB like Brees throwing to them.

Lewan is solid, don't think he drops to 27 and would wonder if the character issues would cause the Saints to look elsewhere even if he did. I'm still pulling for a CB in the first round. A WR at 27 is a scary proposition, not because there is no talent but because its rare to have a rookie first round WR play lights out. Saints grabbing a Matthews or Landry late would be a great pick.
