If history is any lesson then this is exactly correct.
In a previous post I likened Putin's movement into Crimea to Hitler's going into Austria. The naval capture I liken to Hitler going into the Rhineland. The question is, what will be Putin's Poland?

And what will be the allied response?
No one has the stomach for infantry warfare in the Ukraine (well, except Russia). SO our economic sanctions need to be effective and have teeth. We have got to cut his exports of Oil and Gas. It's all they have. Pipelines are easily disabled. Tankers can be quarantined, just like they did to the Ukranian fleet.
We need to get Opec and the rest of the net exporters to begin upping production now, for when this inevitability happens. Good thing it is springtime.

Good points.
Although he is emboldened now by the lack of military mustering against him, he realizes he can't stay on an aggressive campaign for too long without raising resistance where there is now just worry and concern. My guess is that he will consolidate his hold on Crimea and the Sea of Azov before making a move on Ukraine proper. He knows it's going to be another Georgia when he makes that move, but he will make it eventually because he's all about the incrementalism.

Uh, Poland. Or at least a small slice of land near Poland, I forget what it is called, but there are a bunch of Russians that live there.

That wasn't their logic when it came to the nuclear weapons of the former Soviet Union. The Russians did not recognize Ukranian ownership of those assets that were based on Ukranian territory.

These really are acts of war.
Acts of war that are none of our damn business unless you're one of those busy-body neocons.

these are acts of war, are they not?
Whose ships did they seize?
Unless they're American/NATO ships, it's not an act of war against the US.
If they're Ukrainian ships, well, what are they going to do about it?

Don't you think we should check in with our NATO allies on this?
After all, they get 25% of their energy resources from these 'easily disabled' pipelines.
fricking yahoos so quick to go blow shite up and put American lives in harm's way.

Based on some of the comments on this board, you would think Russia must have invaded a U.S. state, or least a territory.

I don't think it's so much that as it is people being worried that not only is Vlad trying to "get the band back together" but he won't stop with just those areas. Jon Stewart had a good bit on this last night when he and one of his correspondents did a role-play where they were Putin and Jon was everyone else.

The pipeline talk made me want to do some more research on the trans-alaskan pipeline. The first result I got was this
Alaskan Pipeline
