Need help from you guys, as I trust y'alls opinions....gonna get a generator for the house soon. Need recommendations of who to get in the Hammond/Ponchatoula area to install it. OR I've heard you can purchase a kit and do the install yourself. Thoughts?? Thanks compadres
ETA: This will be a whole-house natural gas generator

Get water-cooled (radiator) if you don't mind a little extra cost.

I had a NG Generac Guardian at our last house in Denham Springs and had zero complaints.I bought from Ziller Electric online but amazon is good as well. You can save alot on taxes that way.Unless you are a qualified electrician I would not attempt to install it yourself. Also, the xfer switch that comes with them is wired into your breaker panel. Its an indoor switch.I opted for a 200amp Automatic xfer switch that was connected to my meter. When I lost power it switched the whole house. They don't make standby generators.
Generac. Can get a 17KW - 22KW natural gas unit for around $4000 - $5000 with the transfer switch.

We have one at the house, I think it's water cooled and I still need to call up a co to get it under a service contract.

Grandfather is an electrician, that's why I was considering the do-it-yourself route. Also, that auto transfer switch is definitely what I'd like to have.

I told my wife that we could let the single mothers in our neighborhood come stay during a storm. She said they could buy their own generator.
