Proof of Idiocy is the first one. Proof that other nations will be able to control web content(read censorship or disinformation distribution) world wide when they choose to do so for their gain. The UN will definitely love it as it will be to them an extension of control of matters of international relations.

Horribly, horribly, HORRIBLY fricking stupid.
It is the information age. Who ever has a hand in controlling the information has a HUUGE advantage, and we just gave away that advantage.
All part of Obama's plan to weaken/destroy the United States at every turn.

Carter gave the Panama Canal away, so BHO Jangles had to do his part.

You can always rely on Fox to give the daily "2 Minutes Hate".
That headline is priceless (in it's mis-repesentation of reality).

Then clarify it for him

This will make other people in the world like us.

Check one of the threads from a week or so ago.

The rest of the world doesn't trust the NSA running the internet and I don't either.

A Want, what is the reality of the situation? No flame...

the Commerce Department's control of ICANN + the NSA running the internet? wow. the uninformed are running rampant nowadays.
Guess you long for the fantasy world of the "international community" jointly controlling the internet. Can't wait until Russia, China and Venezuela get to decide what web addresses get to stay and which ones need to go!

Its not giving up control over the internet.
It's a system by which domain names are sold/issued and it has been a terribly flawed and inefficient system in the past.

Man. If only facts didn't get in the way of your claims.
From the ICANN web site:
quote:
What Does ICANN Do?
To reach another person on the Internet you have to type an address into your computer -- a name or a number. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN coordinates these unique identifiers across the world. Without that coordination, we wouldn't have one global Internet.
In more technical terms, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) coordinates the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) functions, which are key technical services critical to the continued operations of the Internet's underlying address book, the Domain Name System (DNS). The IANA functions include: (1) the coordination of the assignment of technical protocol parameters including the management of the address and routing parameter area (ARPA) top-level domain; (2) the administration of certain responsibilities associated with Internet DNS root zone management such as generic (gTLD) and country code (ccTLD) Top-Level Domains; (3) the allocation of Internet numbering resources; and (4) other services. ICANN performs the IANA functions under a U.S. Government contract.

and it has been a terribly flawed and inefficient system in the past.
Not sure which internet you've been using, but I can access pretty much any type of content I want to without pause. Wonder if Cuba would be so kind as to grant me access to a web site dedicated to the dissident movement?

Going on a premise that this would be the extent of control loss, how has it been terribly flawed and inefficient and how would this change fix it?

I am speaking factually. Nothing you quoted disputes what I said. The problem is that you lack the technical expertise to even discuss the matter.

That's great, and also irrelevant. You likely never actually hit an ICANN server when browsing the web. When I type a URL, my computer looks to google servers for root hints. Those root hints help find the private DNS servers that hold information needed to direct a URL to a server's IP address. I won't get into authoritative name servers, delegation, and NOC's, because it's really beside the point.

Good grief. :roll eyes: Has nothing to do with ICANN. Cuba will never control ICANN. Cuba can control domestic access to websites via domestic ISPs or backbones, as any government can.

I would put more emphasis on creating parity between some of the generic TLDs.

What you quoted is the same thing he said.
The idea that the Obama admin "controls" it is ridiculous. It's another dog whistle for Fox viewers to be outraged over.
