Just received a claim check on roof damage from a hail storm last month, check is written to myself, my wife, & my mortgage company.

Can I just deposit check so I can begin repairs or do I need to do anything special since the mortgage company is listed on the check?

I believe if the mortgage company is listed on the check you need to get them to endorse it.

Contact them.

What insurance company do you have and what part of ascension do you live in?

Thinking about just going to bank and see if I can slip it by. Anyone have any luck with this?

Would not reccomend this. Don't want to annoy the mortgage company for no reason.

Is there a reason you need to start on the repairs right away? Call the mortgage company. If it is someone that has a local branch, go see them, explain the situation, and go from there.

Sure, do something illegal to save some time.

Seriously, contact the lender.

Every mortgage company handles insurance money differently. I recommend having a roofer selected before going to the local branch if possible. IT might speed the process up...

A rep from your mortgage company will need to sign it. There should be someone at your local branch that can sign it on their behalf (unless you're mortgage was sold multiple times and you're with someone like Ocwen).

If you have a reputable roofer, show him the check and explain to him what's up, and they'll probably start working on the roof. They deal with this all the time.
