I started a thread a couple of months ago about doing a live case with some Pels execs about the disparity of visits between their mobile and desktop websites. I think a big factor is the age of the average Pels fan. If y'all could guess, what would you say the average age of Pels fans are? Not season ticket holders per se, but just fans that follow the team. I'm 21 and I feel like the average age is probably low to mid 20's then tapering off the older you continue.

I would think the average age is higher than that. My guess would be mid 30's

Here is a study comparing the NFL to the NBA, and while the NBA skews younger, it's not by much

Age Range NFL NBA
18-34 29.6% 31.9%
35-49 28.9% 29.1%
50+ 41.3% 39.2%
LINK

I can definitely see the Pelicans and Saints being different than average though. The Saints is a family tradition so you have grand kids through grand parents getting together to watch games and follow the team. The same just wouldn't be true of the Pelicans yet.

But our guesses are pointless, and the population of an internet message board is not representative of the general population. I had to do a project like this for a Mall back in the day and the Pelicans came to your class for free labor. They want you to hit the bricks and work the phones doing a survey to confirm the age difference.

makes sense though. most young kids like the flash and me, me, me mentality of select nba superstars. typically why young ones are the highest risk on being bangwagon pieces of doodoo. which is why I expect the average pels fan to be mid 20s to 30

nfl is much more team oriented and fans usually become fans of a team not just an individual player.

Warriors did a study on the demographics of their fan base in 1998.

It may not be the same for the Pelicans, but I would think that it's relatively similar.

i think the average poster on here is in his (or her) 20s (there are a good number of exceptions to this, though).

i think the average age of someone at the game is mid-to-late 30s or early 40s. again…average…there are lots of youngins and lots of VORs, but many of the 20 somethings can't afford to go to games on a regular basis.

that leaves the average supporter in his (or her) 30s, IMO. i wouldn't be surprised if it's younger for NOLA just because this is a relatively new franchise to the city, and with that comes younger support. just a guess.

I feel most female Pelican fans are really just BBC fans. Or BJSC fans.

don't look at me. i paid more to see the Pels play twice up here than you could have paid to see the Pels play all 30 of their home games so far.

adding in gas and food and drinks at the game pushes that $2 ticket price into a 50 dollar night

The Manning (Peyton) fans might disagree a tad.

I've only made it to a few games this season. On a college budget and the prices add up when you drive from Baton Rouge and order food/drinks. Going with a group of friends is definitely easier on the wallet, but my friends aren't begging to go watch the Pels.

Watching on TV is just easier and more guys my age would rather watch on the couch with a six pack than spend the money to go to the game. That will change when the Pelicans start winning.

I think it's probably high 20s-mid 30s on PT.

The website itself I think would be skewed a little higher.

The few young people (high school juniors/seniors or college fresh I'm guessing) I have seen at the games suggest crap like Gordon for S&T with Detroit for Drummond etc. Not even the dumbest poster on this site has even gone there.

I think it's been mentioned, and Grantland had a fake trade article that didn't think it was all that absurd.
