Got invited to go on a hog hunt this weekend.Only other hog hunt was a canned hunt in an 80 acre pen with catch dogs at boar busters. Question is on shot placement. Where do you swine slaying bastards prefer to place your shot?

Both of these answers are correct.

If you want the meat: between the eyes

If you just want to get them off the land: gut shoot them so they run off before they die

Definitely want the meat as i don't normally have access to wild hog. How viable is the neck shot on these bastards or is it too easy to just hit the jowls and not kill em. Will be slinging lead from a 7mm mag. Looks like between the ears and shoulder should be lights out.

I hit one with a 270 in the neck at about 30 yards and it blew out the front shoulder and damn near took the head off. Never did find the leg she had. So I would say a neck shot with that rifle would work.

Totally depends on the bullet used and contact with bone in the neck/rib/shoulder. 7mm mag has so much velocity that with a FMJ bullet, or even a poorly constructed hunting round, it is very possible to get a complete pass through without mushrooming the round if no bone is hit. Hogs have big necks and hitting the bone is not always as easy as it appears.

Although base of the ear is the connection of the neck to skull and thus brainstem to spinal cord.
