This isn't a knock on anyone thread, Larry Brown is just the best in the business.

SMU had some possessions when you were just like, damn that was unstoppable. They were very smart basketball players and that stems from having such a great coach. They had very few possessions where they were willing to settle for less than the shot they wanted, it was impressive.

More Sports Board.

If Larry Brown is the best in the business, then why is he in the NIT?

LSU played a very talented team last night. The second half was almost unanimously considered to be the best basketball half of their season according to an SMU message board I was reading last night.

LSU got the best from a very good team.

I have watched a lot of basketball the last two weeks, and they are the first team that I have seen that actually had a clue as to how to milk the clock with a 10 point lead in the last four minutes of a game. They passed up several open looks, and even a 3 on 1 fast break once to work the clock and shorten the game.

I watched far too many teams try to hit the "daggar" and bomb away with 20 or more seconds left on the shot clock and a good lead. It probably cost UNC the game against Iowa St.

I'm sure LSU's defense had something to do with them looking so good on offense last night. It probably isn't coincidence that LSU somehow made a number of teams look better on offense.

honestly it's hard to beat the best from any team unless you're playing your best also.

Is there something wrong with admiring a good team? Isn't it better to praise a worthy opponent than to rip your own team? The better team won.

Do you even basketball bro?
What I saw of SMU last night was that the whole team had a good understanding of what they were trying to do, and what role they played in it as individuals.
You didn't see much of guys trying to do things outside the offense, or do things that was outside their role on the team. On defense they worked together and made us really work hard for good shots, which we mostly did. But even when we were winning you could see that SMU had a strategy that was working, we were just making shots and running good offense ourselves.

Once they got a lead they were GREAT at milking the clock. They constantly passed up open looks to run more time and look due better opportunities, which they found.

Overall they were very unselfish, smart, and deliberate. They had a plan and they stuck to it, even when they got down. Mist college teams start doing things outside their comfort zone when they get down, and SMU didn't do that.

I could not agree more. Brown has some issues with staying in one place and really building something but he can just flat out coach. However, it's also fair to note that our offensive execution in the first half was also quite good, with good spacing and appropriate ball movement. I got a little sleepy but I think SMU began to double down more in the second and I don't think our bigs did the best job of handling the double teams.

I don't think I agree with this. Maybe there were some adjustments we could've made, but overall they just refused to panic and stuck with their gameplan until it worked. They trusted what they were doing

Certainly one of the best. Wouldn't say THE best though.

The biggest difference in the two half for our offense is that we hit shots in the first half and not the second. And once we got down we started trying to do too much

Key word: maybe. We played a damn near flawless first half and were shooting lights out. SMU comes out in the 2nd half and starts hitting everything. We start missing our wide open looks, despite some great offensive sets and good ball movement. They're a very good defensive team. They get their raucous home crowd behind them. All that = game over.

Wait...

JONES LOOKS LOST OUT THERE!!! frickING PATHETIC!!1

Ahh, that feels better.
