Why don't the Miami Heat and Florida Panthers share an arena?

Seems pretty wasteful to duplicate two 20,000 seat stadiums in one metro area.

Because one is in Sunrise and one is in Miami which is about 45 minutes from eachother
Unless they are moving the Panthers to Miami which in that case I don't know.

Dude, the 2 stadiums are an hour apart. 1 is in Miami proper and the other is on the edge of the everglades in suburbia.

I know that. I was curious as to why the Heat and Panthers moved to separate arenas after sharing the Miami Arena.

Because one team sucks and the other one is the Florida Panthers

Probably the same reason why the NJ Devils don't share, or the Redwings

Panthers arena is much more convenient to the Palm Beach area, so its within an hour to 3 major population areas instead of 2. But really Hyzuenga probably just got a better deal in Sunrise when the Miami arena closed.

If you live in Atlanta, why do you give a frick?

Sunrise is suburbia out west where there is access to a bigger hockey fan type demo.

Basically, the 2 owners (Arison and Huizenga) got the 2 different counties (Miami-Dade and Broward) to build arenas for them in the areas where their other businesses are headquartered.
The AAA is within walking distance of the Port of Miami right in downtown Miami. You can see Arison's Carnival Cruise ships from the AAA. The cost of a Heat is ticket is more affordable for higher income people that live in downtown condo's, South Beach and large corporate clients headquartered in downtown Miami.
Huizenga has lived in Broward County since he was in high school and Blockbuster and AutoNation ar headquartered there. Panther's tickets are more affordable and more centrally located for the middle class in 3 counties.
But basically it comes down to 2 different county governments kowtowing to 2 different billionaires with taxpayer dollars.

Except that Huizenga and Arison always tried to put a quality product out there. Loria said that he would spend on free agents once we built him a ball park. Then when he did, he dumped all the big contracts midway through the first season in Marlins Park. The scumbag also pocketed revenue sharing money before that.

Who are the Florida Panthers?

All the snowbirds from Ontario who would go to the hockey games can easily drive from Lauderdale by the sea, or wherever random place in broward/palm beach where they own a condo. Not as many snowbirds in south beach. Plus they're already going to the sawgrass mall so they might as well stay for a game.

I doubt it has much to do with geography. There is a significant amount of revenue in stadium deals for the team. Much of this revenue is advertising, premium seating, non-gameday revenue, etc.
There has been some very loose talk about the NBA in Nashville in 10 years. The Predators would not be willing to share concessions profits, premium seat profits, parking, etc. that come along with Bridgestone Arena. For example, Bridgestone is always one the top 5 arenas in the country in annual attendance. About 130-140 events per year and only 45-50 are hockey. The Predators get to operate the arena for all events thus making profit on every concert, monster truck show, circus and and everything else that goes through there.
