Anybody have any experience with this? Is it better to bring as carry on or what?

If you have a club glove or something like that I would definitely go with that and check it in.

If you get a free checked bag and don't need many clothes, check the clubs and carry-on everything else. I have done that before no problem. I flew Delta and United with clubs and they just treat it as a checked bag. You definitely want to add a protective case around the clubs though.

you can buy a hard case to transport and bring them as a checked bag. I think the cases are anywhere from 50-100 bucks. Plus the checking bag fee (TPOS Airlines) probably cost you an extra $100 as opposed to 200-300

It's pretty expensive and that's only for ground...like a minimum of $150 roundtrip and it would take a few days each way.
