Word "uppity" used in a spelling bee

True story , my ten year old won his school spelling bee and competed in the regional saturday in lafayette. In the third or fourth round a black girl was actually given the word "uppity", i cringed and looked around. There were numerous people just looking down at the floor and shaking their heads ...

I really believe we've become a nation of overly sensitive wimps. I'm not calling you a wimp my friend but when we start cringing at the sound of syllables forming a word then we've probably taken the sensitivity thing a bit too far.

Look im in agreement with you, i cringed because i knew how some people would react, not because it bothered me...... Its like when you hear an inappropriate joke in public and you look around to see who heard it, nothing more
