Got out early Saturday morning just to see what is what. As soon as I walked into the woods calling, I had a Jake come running in. Could of shot it very easy. Check other spots were in years pass I call up birds and got on a real good hot Tom. Worked him in within 15 yards and tried to get a picture. He was to fast. Still to cool just to watch them strut all over the place.

Still nice to know that I have the touch of calling birds in. My daughter wants to try to shoot one with her bow. It looks like I will have to put her on one.

On a side note. I didn't have a sidearm on. Could of waxed a few pigs. In fact I didn't have any guns on me.

I got lucky with a nice one this weekend Fish. You are right not much beats listening and watching the show that they put on. It is a lot of fun.

I talked to a guy yesterday wanting to lease out 60 acres in MS that he says "is overun wih turkeys". It borders DeSoto National Forest and also has a good bit of deer, I was told. I was intrigued about the turkey potential. I may call him back today to discuss further.

I took the weekend off. Hunted five days during the previous week and decided that the Missus would kill me if I bailed on the weekend too.

Gonna get after them again this weekend hopefully.

Congrats to those who have bagged one! I'm jealous!

I was so excited to go this weekend I could barely sleep Thursday night. I left Friday morning headed to the camp with all my hopes and dreams intact. Got to the camp and checked the hog, coon, and beaver traps just in time to go roost one at dark that afternoon. Walked in to the area Friday about 6:45 and waited till "fly-up" and heard him gobble. He was right where I had heard him the weekend prior. I went back to the camp and exchanged stories with guys over a steak and bourbon. Saturday morning around 4:45 rolls around and I have a not so easy feeling that has me somewhat anxious. I think it could be the prehunt jitters but was soon proven wrong. From about 5:05am to 7:30am I spent the majority of my time puking and shitting. The rest of the time was spent cleaning up from the other activities. I do not know if I had a virus or food poisoning but whatever it was had a demonic hold on my body. I finally settled back into my bed around 8:00am and slept until I was awaken by the pains of round 2. I stayed at the camp all weekend and never hunted. I felt so bad yesterday morning there was no chance I was going in the woods. I am happy to report I feel much better now and I will be on a strict diet this week to ensure I do not have to walk through the valley of hell again this weekend.

I hunted the Homochitto Saturday . Got close to 2 birds gobbling. They flew down and I couldn't get them to leave all the hens they were with. That afternoon i got one to gobble, and 20 minutes later i hear him fly off because a 4 wheeler comes by and shuts off 100-200 yards from me. Didn't hunt Sunday due to the rain.
