Muslim groups, who claim that the as yet unaired pilot and any subsequent episodes may...MAY...engage in Muslim stereotypes.
Seriously? That's the basis of just about every show on television: shallow, vapid, mindless stereotypes.
Draw your own conclusions.

Alice in Arabia has been pulled from the ABC Family network following intense backlash. The show was about a teenager in Saudi Arabia who was living with her conservative Muslim grandfather against her will.
Muslim advocacy groups complained that the show was racist.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations, the largest Muslim civil rights organizations in the country, wrote a letter to ABC Family on Wednesday when the pilot was announced saying, “We are concerned that, given media references to the main character ‘surviving life behind the veil,’ the pilot and any resulting series may engage in stereotyping that can lead to things like bullying of Muslim students. As the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, we are concerned about the negative impact this program could have on the lives of ordinary Arab-American and American Muslims.”
ABC took the backlash seriously and sent out a statement confirming it had pulled “Alice in Arabia.”
“The current conversation surrounding our pilot was not what we had envisioned and is certainly not conducive to the creative process, so we’ve decided not to move forward with this project,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
ABC Family announced the series order for the Alice in Arabia pilot on Wednesday. The Council on American-Islamic Relations said that it had asked ABC Family to meet with Muslim and Arab-American community leaders to discuss concerns about potential stereotyping in the new series.
Although the group acknowledged that Brooke Eikmeier, the writer, had “noble intentions” for the story’s potential to give Arabs and Muslims a voice on television, it was still concerned about the negative impact the program could have on Arab-American Muslims.

I don't really see this as being an issue. ABC made a business decision, good or bad. TV shows are risky enough as it is, especially on broadcast networks. For all I know they knew the show wouldn't succeed and they are looking for an out.

I hope Southpark makes a version now.
Or HBO or some other network with balls.

Someone needs to. This along with all religions is the exact kind of thing that needs more light shed on it. Expose them all for their fraud.

Seriously Clark?
Don't believe? Fine. Don't want to go to church? Fine.
Please, don't lump ALL religions in with that group of medieval savages.

When you're the only only group that bombs/kills those who insult you on the reg, you tend to get attention.
For all of the hatred WBC receives (including from me), all they did was make asses of themselves and piss people off.

If this risk/reward looked the same regardless of which group threatened offense, I would tend to agree with you. I don't think you can say with any honesty that is it was a mainstream Christian group or worse yet a traditional Catholic group ABC would do the same.
They would tell either of those groups to piss of and the story line would be about those groups trying to dictate morality to the rest of the country and Christians should keep their views private.

I wonder if some Irish American and Italian American groups will write a letter to Scorcesse next time he is about to release a movie,

How does a show like this ever get green-lighted in the first place? Surely ABC knew this would happen.
